... I was working on a Sunday, and cranky about it. Anyway, I got home and turned on the news.

They were showing highlights of the Ohio State-Minnesota game. Ron Lewis was a human highlight reel. They probably showed five plays. Two of them were Lewis dunks. He had 16 points off the bench.

And I got crankier.

Did they show any of his defensive plays? It seems to me he is getting less and less playing time as the season goes on, maybe for other reasons, but the underclassmen are getting alot more PT.

I had a similar situation a couple of weeks ago. On the news from Cincinnati they showed Ron Lewis a couple of times leading OSU to a win, then they showed Stephen Wright leading all scorers as Northern Kentucky won. These games were highlighted back to back. I briefly considering going Elvis-Robert Goulet on the tube, but then remembered Letterman was on in five minutes and shooting the TV might scare the cats.

If it makes you feel any better, Montgomer, Vandermeer, and Moss are having extremely ordinary years for extremely ordinary teams.

Also, remember that Lewis isn't drawing the team's best defender and there are always 4 other OSU players the defenses must respect.

Yeah..Lewis coming in off of the bench...boy I wonder if he would rather be player of the year in the MAC and a first rounder in the NBA or coming in off the bench scoring 11 points per game.

I'm sure he's crying himself to sleep being stuck on the #1 ranked team in the country with a good shot to make the final four instead of hanging out on one of the worst teams in the MAC. He'll probably regret this year for the rest of his life.

Lewis wouldn't even be here at this point. He's in his fifth year (he sat out one for the transfer).

It doesn't make me feel any better at all. Commonsense would tell you that a player (Montgomery) averaging 14 points(leads IUPUI), 5 rebounds, and 2 assists on a team with a better record than we have could help out with the 2-10 conference record. Use a little commonsense!

He would not have been a first rounder had he stayed here either. I agree with your assessment of the ole cowboy. But, what if Antonio Daniels is playing in the Big Ten? He would be just another good guard in the Big Ten for instance. But in the MAC he was a beast and was able to attract some attention. I just wonder if Antonio is playing at Ohio State, Iowa or Indiana, is he the number 4 pick in the NBA draft?

Plus, this is considered by many experts to be the strongest and deepest draft class in history. Ron Lewis never cracks the first round in a really poor draft. Anyone who thinks he comes anywhere near it this year is, indeed, delusional.

Personally, I think AD puts up huge numbers in the Big10 as well. Perhaps not the same that he put up in the MAC, but he's still a star, IMO.

My personal feeling is that pro teams don't scout you based on your numbers. He was the #4 pick in the draft because teams thought he had the size, athleticism, and the heart to play at the next level. Being at OSU instead of BG would not have changed that.


The question I always had about AD was whether or not he was the #4 pick in the NBA if his brother never died.

That's always felt like the 800 lb. gorilla with me... I don't think he is, for multiple reasons.

It seemed like his drive and desire took off after his brother passed, and it also brought attention to him for over a full season that he likely wouldn't have received otherwise. Granted, the NBA knows who you are if you're on SportsCenter or not, but I've always thought the combination of a little extra exposure after Chris died and wanting it more for both of them helped him bunches.

Not that it's a bad thing, mind you.

Rollo, Ron Lewis isn't anywhere near AD in either talent, skill, or IQ. No comparison whatsoever. AD would have ruled any conference in the land his senior year.

That's a decent year. However, Mont would have played behind Samarco here. Also, under DD, I don't believe the Mont would've gotten the shots he's getting now.
