Nice to finally see somebody acknowledge that the refs weren't the only ones who screwed up in that situation. Personally, I'm tired of hearing about it, but I still think if Dan would've shown some sportsmanship and followed typical postgame procedures it's a win and not a loss.

Oh well...only a few more games left. It's gonna be a fun offseason.

No mention of the weather, or that it's SOP for coaches to do what Dakich did. On top of that, in my book, when the buzzer sounds and an official tells me it's over, I'm not thinking of obscure rules or reasons to hang out for a while.

Spotty? Biased? Biased toward whom? This is from the same guy who wrote this piece a few weeks ago, and is a good friend of Dakich. Biased? Really? For rightfully placing blame from a horrible loss?

Fair enough -- wrong about the biased, but still very spotty to not mention any factors except the ones that support your argument.

Eh...I've read accounts that differ on a few points...the officials did not immediately huddle to discuss the play, the official that signalled game over left the court along wiht the team. Hackleburg seems to be shading reality a bit to fit his main contnetion....it's basically Dan's fault. I mean the officials and Witherspoon didn't "look good" but the only person assigned any culpability n this matter is/was Dan.

I don't really see it that way...when I did claims work we used to use the "last best chance" standard as a part of determining liability. One of the officials precipitated the mess by signalling and telling the team the game was over. Dan furthered the potential for disaster by leaving the court in violation of league sportsmanship bylaws...

The officials...they had the last best chance to avoid this fiasco by applying the same standards of conduct to both coaches. You can't T up Dan for pulling his team and then not T up the Buffalo coach for monkeying around wiht the game clock and buzzer.

In short, everybody screwed up...but the officials were the guys who had the chance to fix things or make them worse. They made them worse....

Dakich had ABSOLUTELY NO INCENTIVE to stay in the lockeroom based on any potential outcome of the game.

It would have been impossible for BG to lose with .6 seconds left in the game.

I can only guess that Dan stayed there to let the world see how poor MAC officiating really is. Honestly...that's the only motivation I can come up with.

And it worked. The world has seen it.

And now.....anybody that has an interest in hiding this perception (the MAC office, MAC officails, etc) are doing whatever they can to "stick it" to DD.

Unfortunatly, the kids now have to accept a loss that wasn't deserved......

Maybe they really did get out as quick as they could.

Moyers is 100% correct and Flipper is 100% wrong.

Alright, there is a lot of confusion and bad, thick-headed logic on this issue and it's getting irritating.

DD might have shown poor sportsmanship but leaving the court without shaking hands. Where some go wrong is in blaming the loss on DD because of that. DD should take the blame, perhaps, for bad sportsmanship but nothing more. DD's not responsible for putting .6 back on the clock. He's not responsible for the arbitrary waiting period before the T, and he's not the person who made this arrogant call. The REFS were. Trying to attribute BG's loss as some fatalistic outcome of DD's leaving the court as opposed to the result of shitty officiating is fanciful and airheaded. The key word is "causality" (v. correlation).

I agree with Flipper and BleedOrange. Of all the parties involved, the officials handled their part the worst. Aside from the chaos and miscommunication, T’ing up Dakich and not Witherspoon was nothing more than a tantrum.

And while I’m sure he loves the Falcons, Moyers’ snarky closing remark about Miller exposes him as a rather jaded, cynical observer of the current BG sports scene.
