Dakich doesn't seem like an east coast type of guy to me.

When Dakich left for West Virginia, the two names thrown around the most by the media and the fans were Steve Merfeld and Anthony Solomon. (David Greer got a lot of play as well)

Merfeld and Solomon both got other head coaching jobs and now both have been fired.

Ben Holland was fired at USD.

Interesting that schools with smaller athletic budgets than ours are able to fire their coaches when appropriate, but we always have to wait until the contracts expire to make a change.

Well of course it's easy to fire this Ben Holland guy. What they should have done is fire Brad Holland.

I really don't understand the move to get rid of Brad Holland. He had winning record this year (18-14), made a NCAA tournament appearance, and finished 24 games over .500. It sounds like USD has an over-inflated view of themselves.

You'll have to cut me some slack. He's very tricky with his name. Sometimes he goes by Brad Netherlands.

UK, Seems that I read somewhere recently that the "Gonzaga effect" is the reason for this. The other schools in the conference are boosting their athletic budgets etc. in order to duplicate the "Zags" success.

I don't know why I didn't give credit for this the other day when I read it, but that's pretty damn funny.

There's a very good reason why we can't fire coaches here:

Small budget due to fielding a 1A football team, hockey, and basketball.
