MAC-Only one team to the dance?

Why is it that the MAC has a prime time 7:00pm start for our championship game on ESPN 2 if we only get one team in every year? Do you think other leagues that only get 1 team in consistently would ever have this kind of time slot? ex...Vermont vs. Albany?

There's absolutely no way the MAC gets more than 1 berth. Akron was the best RPI team in the MAC. They were at 65.

According to this, Akron would be the first 26 win team to not get an invitation to the 64-team dance.

Good thought. Since Butler lost on Tuesday night and Akron lost on Saturday night, Akron should get the bid over Butler.

One would hope but it's not likely. The MAC always gets completely disrespected. Butler will get an at-large bid and a pretty good seed because of their ranking and their upsets in the beginning of the season, and Akron will not get a bid, and it will suck completely for the Zips.

Akron is not even assured an NIT bid at this point.

With 26 wins and a decent RPI, I'd be very surprised if they don't get in to the NIT.

I guess I would, too Still, they are listed as on the bubble. The advent of "automatic" qualifiers has tightened the field a little.

They should have won Saturday if they wanted in. They do not even have CLOSE to a resume that should warrant an at large bid.

I think they are a very good team. I think they could win a game if they had won Saturday night. Still, their pathetic OOC schedule did them in. If MAC teams want to start getting some at large bids they should try scheduling and beating some decent teams in the OOC season.

MAC basketball is not nearly at the same level as it was 5 years ago...that makes it even more embarrassing to see how far off we've dropped.

our conference RPI is ranked 15th. MAC basketball is very low right now.

Akron was left out of the NIT field. Toledo is playing Florida State.

Can't believe it! 26-7???? RPI of 63! Highest team sitting at home.

Didn't Akron go something like 25-6 in the 80s/early 90s pre-MAC and get left out of both NCAA and NIT? They will always be a second rate up and comer in my mind.

Wow. In 6.5 seconds Akron goes from an NCAA berth to "Zip." I actually feel bad for them.
