Call me crazy ?
Well, NIU made their Judson announcement yesterday, yet BG delays an announcement because our AD is in Cleveland with the womens team. This is a peculiarly weak reason to delay announcement this important.
I'm getting the odd suspision that that DD"s chances of being extended are better than most of us believe. Otherwise, why wouldn't BG make the announcement and move forward asap? Furthermore, 3/10 has come and gone. DD currently not under contract.

Well then if 3/10 has passed, why does there need to be an announcement made? Dan Dakich is not the coach of the Men's basketball team at this time.

Great point. That's how everyone else handles this situation.

How about statement of intent to the general public, university community, players, the MAC, and potential coaching candidates?

I agree completely. Stringing out the process does no one any good. This is like slowly removing a band-aid rather than just yanking it off in one fell swoop.BleedOrange wrote:Well, NIU made their Judson announcement yesterday, yet BG delays an announcement because our AD is in Cleveland with the womens team. Any conceivable grace period for our excellent women's team has now passed. Anything beyond today is senseless and a bit cruel. Dan Dakich has a right to know what is future at the University is going to look like.
If a search is indeed ahead, we're falling behind NIU and the 3 MVC schools in identifying and attracting potential candidates each day that goes by with no action.

1. How do you know Dan does not already know?JoeFalcon wrote:I agree completely. Stringing out the process does no one any good. Just becuase there has been no public announcement does not mean that those direclty affeted dont know.

1. He said himself that he planned to be back as recently as March 8. Greg Christopher said they would not even have the conversation until some time this week.
2. Because we still have a head coach at this point, hence the importance of resolving issue #1 one way or the other. You can't initiate the process officially or professionally otherwise.
"Yes, Coach X, this is Greg Christopher. Would you be interested in coaching at BG?"
"Uh, does Dan know about this?"
Every AD has a short list of names they would consider, but that is hardly the equivalent of the full-blown national search that other schools are engaged in.

Take a deep breath. If we do decide to look, a couple of days isn't going to make or break the thing. We're not competing with the MVC schools anyway--they pay way more and it is a much, much better conference.JoeFalcon wrote:If a search is indeed ahead, we're falling behind NIU and the 3 MVC schools in identifying and attracting potential candidates each day that goes by with no action.

Also, If Dan's contract had indeed run out, then really no action needs to be taken, other than letting the public know that an extension/new contract as not been offered. This also means that we likely don't have a head coach right now, and the AD is probably talking with candidates already.

I'm breathing just fine, thank you. Dragging this out is disrespecful to Dan Dakich and hurts our chances in competing with other institutions for coaches.orangeandbrown wrote:Take a deep breath. The Valley is superior to the MAC at this point, but that doesn't mean MAC schools can't make a serious run at the same type of candidates. I see many potential MAC coaches on preliminary lists for the MVC schools, including former Ball State coach Ray McCallum and Southern Indiana (D-II) head coach Rick Herdes.
