Kind of fun to look back on...

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

I found this last night while digging through some of my files. It's a note from coach Dakich after my dad died and the attached letter from my dad to Dakich "welcoming" him to BGSU basketball in 1997.

I scanned and uploaded it as a 2-page PDF.

Here's the "transation" if you can't read the handwriting on the note:

Grant, thought you might enjoy a copy of the letter your dad sent me - It's dated April 28th, I was hired April 21st - He didn't take long to tell me how to run BG hoops - Your dad seemed like a great man - BG will miss him as will I personally. Dan Dakich

Wow. Your dad was quite the stalker, wasn't he?

My favorite part is my dad's description of Casey Shaw...

Grant, Now I wish I'd saved the note DD sent to me when I was fundraising for the Heartwalk last year..... some of you may remember that I'd requested some financial assistance to sponsor me on the walk.... got a letter from the "basketball office" at BG about 10 days later with a personal note from DD and a $10 check to help the cause and an offer to come up to a game etc. Sadly, I didn't take him up on that offer that year...now it's too late...but I'll never forget my talks with him at the then Gund Arena AFTER we'd been eliminated...he'd stayed to root on the ladies at what I believe was their FIRST championship game (the one they lost).
