Jim Boeheim, Syracuse Head Coach
"Louis is a great basketball coach. He's proven he can win and get his teams into the NCAA Tournament. I think he's the perfect choice for Bowling Green."

Pete Gillen, Former Xavier, Providence and Virginia Head Coach
"Louis Orr is an outstanding basketball coach who worked for me at Xavier University and Providence College. He did a great job at both of these fine institutions, and he made an impact with the players in the program as well as the administration and the community. He is a fine leader and he will do great things at Bowling Green."

Dick Vitale, ESPN
"I think Louis Orr is a great fit there. He has a winner's mentality and is a consummate professional. Just look at the success he has had in the past. I feel kids will love playing for him."

Clark Kellogg, CBS
"I have much admiration and respect for Louis as a coach and as a person. I'm glad to see him back on the sidelines. He's a knowledgable and passionate teacher of the game, and he also has great passion for developing and mentoring the student athletes entrusted to his care. He embodies character, enthusiasm, and hard work. That's a winning combination. I think the experience and success he had at Seton Hall recently has prepared him well for the work ahead at Bowling Green."

Jim Christian, Kent State
"He's a man with unbelievable integrity and faith. Because of his experience as a player and coaching at the level he has, he can relate to the players."

Charlie Coles, Miami
"He's a very, very outstanding man. He's got great values and a pretty even temperament. He's the Tony Dungy of college basketball."

Maybe he can get Gillen to be an assistant?

Those are some great comments from what I would consider knowledgable basketball people. Here are the ones that resonate the most with me:

"He embodies character, enthusiasm, and hard work"

"He's a man with unbelievable integrity and faith"

"He's a very, very outstanding man. He's got great values and a pretty even temperament. He's the Tony Dungy of college basketball."

I bet he is here for 6 years or so, never recruits a point guard or a shooter, plays boring basketball and our offense sucks.

These things are all great to hear. However, this situation is just like what happens when people die. No one is going to say anything bad on record about Louis Orr. Take those comments for what they are.
Yeah, we sure wouldn't want to get excited about something... Thanks for injecting a reality check into my world. For a moment there, I actually enjoyed something dealing with BGSU sports... how the f**k dare I?

I'm sure I could go around and find 5 people to say something good about Scooter McDougal. Hell, there's an article in the Blade today where his past coaches and school administrators, as well as his family of course, are saying good things about him. Nobody's going to rip or talk bad about Orr in this spotlight.

I dont remember saying that you should not get excited about something or that I was not excited. But now that you mention it comments like that are not much of a reason to get excited.

Great, we make what appears to be an outstanding HC hire, and we have an analogy to someone dying. WTF?!?!?!

Nevermind, this admittedly did not say what I was trying to say.....

Let's try again...

I don't remember ever saying you should not be excited about this coachin hire or that I was not excited about this coaching hire. I don't think that these types of quotes are anything to get excited about. Those quoted are in a position that limits them to only positive public comments.

sry about the confusion...

Character, Integrity, Faith. Those are three things that you don't just throw out to be complimentary about a basketball coach. These are values about how he leads his life. That is why I am excited about Mr. Orr being our coach.

Which of those didn't Dakich have??? Which of those does 90% of the coaches who lose their jobs and find new jobs not have?? You could of interviewed 100 people looking for D1 head coaching and 90% would of had these values. I think thats a poor argument.

I don't understand why this IS an argument. Good lord people...

We just hired a new coach! Not once did someone say Dan Dakich lacked those qualiites. No one is saying Orr is the be-all end-all solution to everything. But for cripes sake, let's enjoy that we have what seems like a wonderful man and a coach with a proven record coming in to take over the helm of a ship that's been off course the past couple of years!!

I swear to God... does EVERYTHING need to suck in some way or another?

You know? This used to be a fun site to visit. Now it is a perpetual cylce of pissed off at the world or "I am all knowing" posts. No one is allowed to be happy and post excitement without some a-hole tearing it apart. I don't know why I still come back.
