I am awaiting confirmation, but it looks as if Chris Wyse's deal with UC fell through. Wyse is a legit, true point guard from Toledo Scott and at one time before the City League started was averaging 30+ a game at the beginning of the season. He battled some ankle and other issues at the end of the season but would be a huge get for Coach Orr if he is in fact still available.

Stuff like this is gold, Option. Keep us posted.

Apparently, Wyse is in the same situation as Darryl Roberts of a year ago. He never qualifed at UC so they went a different route and he's still available. I do not if he has since qualified or he is still working on that part. Even sitting a year out, he would be an absolute steal. Very talented lead guard that has really come on since last summer and before.

Option:
I'll respond simply by saying that I don't think taking in "non-qualifiers" from other schools is the way to go...Yes, there are the Keith McCleods of the world, but the risks of taking in academically weak students and hoping they'll stay eligible isn't worth it... It may come to pass that we take a JUCO or two, and I don't have a problem with that as long as they're reasonably academically solid by finishing their two yrs. in good stead. But I'd rather NOT take anyone this year if that's the way we have to go...and focus on getting some solid kids in here next season.

I don't like to generalize like this. Coach Orr can look at a kid as an individual, assess his circumstances, and make decisions on a case-by-case basis.

I think a schollie given to a PG who has to sit a year would be a waste..we need someone who can step in and play. I'd prefer to see us sign a JUCO PG and a PF/C. If Guerin gets non renewed, then you can look at a freshman who has to sit a year...if he's boderline...not a Leon Petty no way in hell this kid ever makes grades kind of ineliginble.

I saw a post Leon made on a basketball forum (reasonably sure it was Leon) during his SR in HS. It was unreadable...I'm reasonably certain it pertained to basketball, but I'm not sure it was written using any form of english

I remember that post. It was pretty bad.

Speaking of bad, did you read what Steven Wright wrote about DD? He doesn't come across any better.

What's the Steven Wright comment?

In most cases, I am actually anti-Non qualifier as well. However, being that Coach Orr has only had 10 days or so recruit under the BG banner and seeing as how we need an influx (at least 2 available) of athleticism and players, I would not be opposed to it in a case by case basis. I don't necessarily want to add 2 non-qualifiers but I could see how one makes sense.

That being said, I have found little to no information arguing that Orlando Allen played for Cincinnati Woodward this year. It is entirely possible, that Coach Orr has maintained a relationship with Allen and Owens since leaving Seton Hall and has "advised" them on holding out based on finding him (Orr) finding a new job. Quincy Owens on the other hand, is not at Cincy Harmony Prep anymore. He's at LA-7 West Academy in California according to CSTV Recruit Tracker. I have no idea what that is. I would say the chances of both coming are slim to none, but that we possibly have a shot at Allen due to the Cincy connections if he's still around.

Another intriguing name for all of you is Tearon Hill also at one time associated with Harmony Prep. Scout is relatively cool on him and has him listed as 2 stars. Rivals has him as the 19th best C in the US and drawing interest from some major players. He played this last season for Conerstone Christian in Texas. Rivals lists him as 6-9/230.

Hopefully we will know something soon. If Guerin has been added, I doubt we will see another guard added, but his addition certainly doesn't fill a need.

IMO, it is wise for mid-major coaches to occasionally take well calculated risks on certain guys. Weinert, Larranaga, and Dakich all did so. (Joplin has done so toooo much, imo.) Sometimes a guy works out (Keith McLeod, Jim Smith), and sometimes a guy doesn't (Leon Petty, Reggie Harwell). If a guy does work out, you have a player for 3 or 4 years. If he doesn't work out, he's gone in a semestar or 2. What we don't need are sanctimonious, pompous attitudes among fans about these kids. Right now, we have our fingers crossed on Chris Knight, and I think that that kid will come in and kick some A. On the other hand, if we have a major hole to fill, it pay sto play it safe and find a qualifier, Given that we have 3-4 guys returning that have experience at PG (Hamblet, Clements, Guerin, and Sims) would it pay to take a risk on a guy like Wyse? Maybe so.

Not to be sanctimonious or pompous, but I think we need a true PG who can play next year. Sounds like JUCO to me, but we have lots of guys with experience at PG, but no one who can play PG.
