Thought I'd post this on JD's behalf. He's always been more than gracious to me and helped out a ton with getting me info for this site. IU hoops is GOD around Bloomington... I hope he knows what he's getting himself into. Seems like a fantastic opportunity for him!
Good luck, JD!
Just wanted to let everyone know that I am leaving BGSU to take a
similar position at Indiana. I will oversee the media relations
office at IU and be the primary contact for men's basketball. I
will start my new role June 2 and my family will make the move after
baseball season in late July.
I have enjoyed this ride as much as anything in my life and have
valued the friendships I have made with those of you who we have
dealt with on a daily basis. This is an outstanding group of
professionals to work with, but better people to know.
Mike and Dave will be handling everything in the interim.
Hopefully, we can have one last Tuesday media lunch before I go so I
can thank all of you personally.
Thanks again for your kindness, friendship and professionalism.

Nothing against the guy but I dont' see this as a loss really. I'm excited and hopefull we can get a guy in here and fully take on and understands the role of Assistant AD/Communications cuz we've been medicore in overall communications IMHO.

You sir have NO idea what you are talking about. JD will be a great loss to the department. He is dedicated to his job and puts in more than his share of late hours to get the job done. And that is beside the fact that he is a damn good guy. He will be missed by many people. Maybe if he was 6'8" you would think this was a loss...

Ya know, in the years you have "been a fan" of this fine institution, that might be the most moronic and disgraceful thing you have ever said. Your true knowledge for anything that has to do with our athletic programs just came out. Not that I really took anything you've ever said with any real value, but I am now 100% sure I will never start. Seriously, get a clue before making comments like that!
JD has giving so much of his time and life to our athletic program. He'll be missed for sure!!

JD made a 5 star meal with pantry basics on a daily basis.

Leave it to falconboy to say something totally inappropriate...his capacity to make an ass of himself appears limitless

I usually just read and don't post much on here--but the comments that JD is not a loss are real off base and just wrong. He does a wonderful job and puts in many, many hours for the good of BGSU!

JD will be missed. I hope he and his family are happy in Bloomington. That comment was completely inappropriate.

Care to share some examples of how we've been mediocre? Or do you just wanna continue to talk out of your ass like the dudes on the ESPNEWS commercials? Could you even pick JD Campbell out of a crowd? Our sports info at BG is/has been great in all areas.
As a WBGU guy, it was great to know JD. Always made sure everyone/everything was taken care of. Sounds like a great opportunity at IU, good luck to him.

It was a pleasure to work for JD while I was a student. For someone to say that this really isn't a significant loss just really doesn't know what he or she is talking about. We have one of if not the best sports information departments in the MAC. I would say Miami University and us are neck and neck. It would be one of the best in the country if it had not been for a very small budget to work with. JD Campbell, Mike and Dave do more for this athletic department than most can even imagine.
Big schools have been trying to take these guys away for years. It's their dedication and love for BGSU that has kept them here for so long. It is pretty hard to turn down an offer to be the head mens basketball contact for Indiana University.
Former SID Kris Kamann had a job offer a few years ago to be the Football contact for Indiana football which he turned down. He later became the head Media Relations director for the CBA. It just irks me when someone makes a comment and has no facts to back it up. Especially when they don't even know the person they are insulting or what the job requirements are.

The most impressive thing about JD might be the praise from the student reporters we've heard from. Instead of treating them like second class citizens as he could have easily done, he respected their work and their role in covering the teams. He was also extremely responsive when an ordinary fan like myself would make suggestions and recommendations.
He also seemed maximize the exposure we've received. I don't know too many schools our size who had their QB featured in an ESPN The Magazine spread and were the subject of articles from national writers like Ivan Maisel, Dan Wetzel and Gregg Doyel.
Mike Cihon seems like an ideal replacement if he wants the job given the outstanding work he's done with women's basketball. After every game, I knew I'd get an exceptionally detailed recount of the action and a full transcript of Curt Miller's postgame press conference.

Didn't he head out west to Montana?

JD did a great job and will do even better with a deeper budget and more narrow focus. I would gamble that falconboy just does not understand what JDs duties were.
I think that where we lacked some vision during his tenure was marketing and ticket sales. Which would be mainly outside of his duties. (Edit, I added this last sentence to fruther clarify my point and to avoid the oncoming brutal attack. Sinners)
