Fox Sports is reporting this afternoon that (Indiana Univiersity) men's basketball assistant coach Rob Senderoff is expected to resign from his position. It has been just over two weeks since Indiana announced it had imposed sanctions on the program and sent the NCAA a report on improper phone calls.

Senderoff has been in the middle of the phone call issue since Indiana reported he had made most of the excessive phone calls described as being secondary violations and for initiating 10 three-way calls with head coach Kelvin Sampson that were later determined to be not allowable under Sampson's one year recruiting ban.

A New York native, Senderoff was largely responsible for Indiana's recruitment of Devin Ebanks, a top 15 forward from Queens, N.Y. and an Indiana commitment since last June.

Early speculation on his replacement has centered on Dan Dakich, the new Director of Basketball Operations at Indiana. The former Hoosier player spent 12 seasons as an assistant coach at Indiana under Bob Knight and returned to Bloomington this fall after 10 seasons as the head coach of Bowling Green. Whomever replaces Senderoff would face self-imposed recruiting sanctions through next July according to what IU officials announced on October 14. That includes initiated calls to prospects and off campus recruiting and scouting trips.

I can't wait to see what Coach Orr can do with this program. It's still football season and I usually don't get that jacked for hoops until football is over but this hiring has me pumped.

More seriously, I think it's easier to look past some things when you're on top of the mountain and not on the bottom looking up.

Wow Grant, lot of different ways you can look at this. Did DD really not like the allegations flying around WVU or did he truly think he made the wrong choice and wished he would have just stayed at BG? I don't recall exactly what was found at WVU, but I don't recall it being anything too serious.

On the second issue, did DD have the IU gig lined up knowing his contract was up at BG? Is that the reason he didn't seek a new contract? Or more likely, he knew a new contract was not going to be tendered so he had to find something? But there was all kinds of speculation that he could go to New Mexico and be an assistant for Alford, but went to IU to be the ambiguous "Director of Basketball Operations". If coaching is in his blood (as it is with most coaches), why would he pass up an opportunity to sit on the sidelines so he could sit in an office? But the aligations about Sampson's mis-dealings surfaced like a year ago, so he was well aware of violations at IU, yet he had no issues with taking a job there. Hmmm

At any rate, he seems to be falling farther and farther each day in how I view his character. I don't want to go bashing him now either, but the more things you here about his time here, the more I am glad he is gone.

I think if I'm he current coach at IU I would punch Dan in the neck the first time he says "coach Knight used to do this...."

I would take any public statement from Dan with an immense grain of salt....like maybe one of those 2 ft high cubes you can buy at Anderson's if you want to draw deer to your area. Deer really like licking that salt.

I stopped taking anything Dan said seriously years ago. When he tried to say that Lewis transferred because he wanted to play PG to get to the NBA, I pretty much gave up all hope for Dan.

Unbelievable that DD must take a job as the assistant for an OUTLAW PROGRAM. How his star has fallen. In the big picture I don't know if the violations were that serious but they seem to have trouble following the rules recently (and isn't they why their head coach was available for this position?).

I don't think there was anything that said he turned down the job at New Mexico. More likely, it wasn't offered.

Finally, Director of Basketball Operations is not ambiguous. It is a non-coaching position, but it isn't ambiguous.

I think you bring up an excellent point about Dan. All I know is I don't view him or his character as well as I did in the past. First it was the remarks he made about BGSU a couple months ago on the radio...

But I CAN say I am totally jacked that Coach Orr is now in charge! I wish I could be at the exhibition tomorrow to see the team play.

Dan? I wish him the best but am happy we have new blood on the bench.

Maybe ambiguous wasn't the right word I was looking for. What word describes a job that a person seems completely overqualified to perform in that admin people handle that function elsewhere, not former D-I coaches in their early forties? Maybe I'm trying to say the circumstances by which he gets that job are ambiguous. Like they knew the possibilty existed that someone would take the fall for the recruiting calls and they needed someone in the program that they could quickly promote to a coaching position. So they give him the job of Dir of B O, with little intention of him ever having to perform said functions of that job.
