SUNDAY!?!?

Post by hammb »

Why the heck do we play games on Sunday afternoons seemingly every season?

In year's past the Browns are generally playing for draft position, so I usually end up going to the games, but this year, I think I'll probably stay home and watch the football game & listen to the hoops on the radio.

It seems to me that it's pretty stupid to go head to head against the biggest sport in the country.

Very strange day to have a game. Good thing the Bears are out of it...well they play on Monday anyway. But I'll be there with my family. My dad is an Illinois State alumn so it should be fun.

With students heading home, there may be a handful that would stay for the game had it been on Saturday afternoon, rather than Sunday. Sunday you can expect next to no student turnout, which is great planning.

Oh that's probably it! Is graduation on Saturday?

If so, then I understand why they'd have the game on Sunday. Still bugs me, but that would certainly explain it.

They should have it on Saturday, but not tell any of the graduates. Packed house for hoops, then after the game, hand out diplomas... but only if they score 85 points and win. :-D

I agree. Sunday games are stupid. I never attend Sunday games since i have to drive a few hours afterwards. Saturday games are perfect. If they were tv games I would understand a little more.

Have a special, like they do with Taco Bell or something. If BG scores eighty five everybody attending gets a free degree.. You all pretty much just hand those out to anybody anyways, right? ;-)

To go along with playing Sunday....why oh why did they put Temple and Duquense over Thanksgiving and X-mas breaks? Temple is the biggest name that came to Anderson this year and the Dukes play an up and down style that is extremely fun to watch.

because its the only date that worked BG/Temple and BG/Duquense, its not like we were the ones deciding, the date has to work for both schools

Thats to bad....those would have drawn at least 2,500 now they'll be lucky to crack 1,500.

Well thats what happens with basketball and the breaks, can't just take that three weeks off because home attendence might suck.

Yep...that's what I said.....

I was simply saying if BG ever wants student interest to grow they might want to start getting games that would be entertaining for students while students can see them. They should make every effort to get these games while students are in session. I find it absurd that the biggest non conference game of the year was during Thanksgiving break and drew a whopping 1200 people!

So far this year home attendance as been as follows....
Morehead--1053
Temple--1248

Illinois St, Eastern Illinois, Duquesne, and Ohio will be lucky to have 1200 people. OU is one of the bigger MAC games of the year, obviously this has to do with MAC scheduling but still big MAC game.

That leaves us with 4 "names" left. Miami,Toledo, Akron, & Kent St.. Miami is extremely hard to watch so I'll say its a toss up for the crowd. Even though it's a rivalry game with the year Toledo is having I wouldn't hold my breathe for a big crowd. Akron eh maybe, Kent St. should have have a nice crowd granted were not severely below .500 in the MAC.

Point being if we can some how manage 1250 attendance this year it will be a miracle. We need all the help we can get putting butts in the seats.

If BG ever wants student interest to grow, they need to get students that want to support BG because it's BG, not because of who they're playing. :?
