With about a minute left in the game, Clements was inbounding on our baseline. The referee spent what felt like an eternity informing everyone that he could run the baseline. He did, and then someone blows the whistle and the OU side erupts.

I figured he stepped on the line. The officials meet, we let everyone know that Clements can run the baseline, and then he gets to do it again.

What happened?

Looked to me like the official called traveling saying that he couldn't run the baseline. No clue why not.

That's what they said on the radio. The one official called "traveling" for running the baseline, then the officials got together and overturned it.

BG had the ball after an OU timeout. It's the same as inbounding the ball after a basket, which is what happened just before OU called timeout. Thus, BG can run along the baseline to inbound the ball. Had it been a turnover, for example, BG would have had to inbound from the spot. The ref screwed up and I think all they had to do was remind him of the circumstances.

I could be wrong, but here's my take: The rule is that the inbounder cannot run the baseline after a made shot. OU had made a shot and then there was a timeout. Clements was the inbounder after the timeout and ran the baseline. The official applied the rule as if Clements was inbounding a after made shot, neglecting the post-timeout rule.

At the time, I thought original call was correct and was surprised when they reversed it.

BleedOrange, you have it all wrong. You CAN run the baseline after a made basket. Since this out of bounds situation was after a Ohio timeout following a made basket, that rule applied. The referee forgot this was the in-bounds following a made shot and thought the in-bounder had to stay in one spot.

Yep, that's my understanding as well.

I was sitting behind the ref, where the band usually is, and we could clearly hear him tell our player that he could run back and forth. He, of course, then blew the whistle on the guy running down the baseline. He apologized to our guy for his momentary bout of insanity
