Open scrimmage Saturday AM!!

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

The BGSU men's basketball team will hold an open scrimmage in Anderson Arena Saturday at 9:30AM before the Marshall game. There's no admission.

It's a great opportunity to take in some hoops before the big football game!

Why couldn't they do this AFTER the football game? I'm sorry, I'll be tailgating. Too bad, too.

Insight...?

Post by Crew Love »

Did anyone NOT tailgate this morning or sleep in? I'd love to hear some insight on how the team looked as a whole, what individuals impressed, and how the newcomers are progressing.

Thanks in advance.

I dropped in on the scrimmage

I stopped in to see the scrimmage. The team seemed focused on executing their offense and over all, looked cohesive and well conditioned. The team seems well along for this point in the season. There were relatively few turnovers and defensive lapses. I only heard DD swear once.

IMHO, Perrick Robinson looks game ready right now. He's sure handed with the ball. He has a nice stroke and picks his spots to penetrate. He seems disciplined with the ball and reverses it well on the perimeter. I got the impression that he was well couched in HS. He and John Floyd gives us a crucial element that our team hasn't had since Pardon left - ball control at PG. This will help us a lot (John Reimold and our post players in particular). I think we'll be considerably more solid on offense as a result.

GBitch looked like the Fitch of old. I think he's back fully, THANK GOD!!!!!!! Having Fitch will make Lewis's departure much easier to forget.

Lefeld reminded me a little of Len Matela with some of his interior moves.

Soler is a frontliner with good mobility who'll get his boards and defend guys like Mike Williams and Robbie Owens. He won't post big scoring numbers, put I expect him to be an important part of the rotation.

I'm optimistic this year. Robinson, Floyd, Fitch, and Soler will address weaknesses from last year. With Fitch and the three seniors, we have great leadership. I think we'll make a run at 20 wins.

I hope you're right about a run at 20 wins -- after last season and the off-season crap -- that would be a coach of the year candidacy for DD. Thanks for the comprehensive report.

Thanks for the report. I am more optimistic than I was in August. In my view, the key is at point. Robinson was all-public league in Chicago, which is no small feat. If he was only unsigned in August due to academic issues, he could be a real help on ball control. A real PG makes this team better right away. The problems with the press go away. And reversing the ball on the zone! Cool. And if Lefeld continues to improve, Fitch is back, this team could compete. I'm getting jazzed.
