Balanced Scoring and More

I am with Hambb on the fact that it saddens me no one is talking Mens BBall. A couple observations from far away in NC. Although I have not see the team live because of where I currently live. Just going through this years box scores and listening to all the live feeds, a couple things jump out. One is obviously the development of OP is incredible if the kid keeps it up by the time he is a senior he could be the first big man POY since
C. Kaman (C. Mich) in the MAC. Also it is nice to have a coach whose message to his players is sinking in. I am not saying the DAN was not a good coach, his message was simply getting old and tuned out. The young guys are buying into the philosphy of "D" and hustle wins games. Also for the first time in a long time, I looked at the box score and listened to the game on live audio and thought I can not remember the last time we had such a balanced scoring attack. This team is going to be great to watch, it will be a rollarcoaster ride with such a young team, however I will tell you this for sure. When the MAC tourney rolls around some coach with a very good record is going to look at the tourney seedings and say Sh*t we have to play Bowling Green. I love this team more and more every game and I hope the community begins to back them. I am just wondering how everyone else feels especially people who have seen the team live?

Go Falcons!!!

Great post, 60. I was able to see BG play Kent the other night and the desire is there....no question. Things are starting to come together and this is going to be a fun team to watch.

Congrats to OP on his first double double as a Falcon, Brian Moten on his career high of 20 and Joe Jakubowski's career high of 13.

This team hustles and plays hard...and that is going to take them places. Even though we lost at Kent, the effort was there. The shots simply weren't falling. I'll get another chance to see them Sunday at Akron so twice in one week.

I think BG is gonna pull one out on the Zippies....

Last night was a great all around game to watch. Finally seeing the falcon big men, Polk and Larson play like they are 6-9 was nice. Jakubowski is going to be a heck of a player. He has great presence on the floor, handles the ball well, plays with intensity, and can take his shots when available.

The defense was in the face of Buffalo all night, forcing turnovers and mistakes. Very impressive win. Should be a fun team to watch come together down the stretch

Moten really can score if given the chance. He needs to keep hustling on defense enough that they can keep him on the floor. He's got the best jumper on the team, and he's a good finisher on the break. I'd like to see his PT continue to rise.

OP is a different player now than he was in the early going. It's been fun to watch him play. When he can stay on the court he is a flat out difference maker. His inside presence defensively & on the boards cannot be understated. On top of that he actually draws a ton of fouls himself (shot 12 free throws last night), so when he's not getting into foul trouble, he has the ability to get the other teams' big men into foul trouble.

Clements played a darn good game last night. I hope that can continue. I haven't been a fan of him running the offense, and I haven't really cared for his shot either. He did put up a pretty good game last night.

Jakubowski had a good scoring game last night, but I'd like to see him contribute a little more in distributing the ball. He's still a freshman though.

Miller is a one trick pony on offense, but he's pretty darn good at that trick. He gets to the basket and when the defense collapses he actually made a couple good passes last night for easy buckets. Between that and getting to the free throw line I like his game. He's got real quick hands on defense too.

Knight is still an enigma. I see a ton of talent in this kid, but he doesn't seem to have the intensity he needs just yet. Seems like once or twice a game he'll get the ball on the block turn around and hit a fadeaway jumper and just look so smooth. Then we won't see it again that game. I think we need to look to get him the ball in scoring position a little more often, because he's got a real nice inside/midrange jumper and we just don't seem to get him the ball in position to score. Not sure he's aggressively gaining that position either. Tons of talent, but he's still a freshman, has a lot to learn.

Larson is still Larson & Sims is still Sims, but if they can give us a few points or some defense in their minutes then I'm happy. Neither really have shown much, but they both fill a role filling in when the other guys need a break.

The team is still a work in progress, but it's been real nice to watch them grow the last couple months. This group will continue to get better as the season goes on, and that's all I can really ask for. If we can continue to get production out of the junior guards that we got last night this team could actually be pretty good. We need Moten & Clements to continue showing up and playing well. Throw that in with the continued development of Knight, Jakubowski, and Polk; add in the continued solid play of Nate Miller and this is a decent MAC team. If OP, CK, or JJ really take a quantum leap we could be a darn good team by the time the tourney starts up.

I know I'm really enjoying watching this group buy into coach Orr's philosophy and grow as the season wears on.

It sounds like I've missed some good things lately. You think the athletic department could move the games back to 9 so I could get there after my classes?! :D

I missed my first game in years due to work related reasons last night. I received text messages telling me how good Otis was playing and I kept just getting more and more pissed that I wasn't there. To boot, I ate bad tasting chicken, but the peach pie was great, so all wasn't lost.

The team is fun to watch again. People choosing to stay home and not watch are missing out. Plus, just think how much more motivated the guys would be if we could get at least 3500 in AA for a game. These players have never had the opportunity to see AA packed with students on the floor. They deserve it now, especially with the desire and ferocity they have displayed in their game.
