Honestly, what if someone told you a month ago that our men's team and our women's teams would have identical MAC records on 1/27. Would you have laughed in their face?

Probably.

Ah, yes and no. I mean, to their own degrees, both of these teams were somewhat of a crapshoot going into this season. I mean, the women have, what? 18 freshmen? And the men have, what? -3 seniors and a new coach?

Either way, both teams are having great years, and that is extremely exciting.

I agree completely.

It's GREAT to see BG claw to .500 overall and 4-2 MAC. Yes, the women are having a bit of trouble but we all knew there would be some growing pains this year.

Bottom line...BG hoops are doing well so far...keep it going!

How about this for astonishing: If the MAC tourney started today, we would get a first round bye!

We currently would have the fourth seed by means of our win over Ohio. That, my friends, is simply unbelievable.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think our in-conference schedule has really helped us so far. First of all, we've played 4 home games to only 2 on the road. That's helped to inflate our record. Secondly, the two toughest teams in the conference, Akron and Kent, we ended up playing on the road. The teams we've beaten at home haven't been as good with the exception of Ohio, which was a GREAT win. You should be able to beat bad teams at home and lose to good ones on the road. Now don't get me wrong, its a great thing that our team has risen to this level in such a short time. Last year we couldn't beat bad teams at home. But doing that doesn't necessarily mean you're in for a great year.

When the schedule turns around, and we start playing the good teams at home and the bad teams on the road, then we'll see how good we truly are. Are we good enough at home to beat Akron? Are we bad enough on the road to lose to Buffalo? At this point in time, my answers to those questions are probably not, and probably yes respectively. That's a problem because those are the big questions that will decide how the rest of the season goes.

If there is a point to be made, we need to start winning some games on the road too, because we're going to be up against some tough teams at AA later on this year, especially when Akron and Kent come calling.

I'm not sure we're reading the same thread. This team is overacheiving and everyone in this thread recognizes that. No one has said that that we're in for a "great year."

Fortunately, we're a younger team and I'd like to think that improving at a faster rate than Akron and Kent. I'd rather have those games late rather than soon.

Well, that is a good point. Our guys will have to keep improving if they want a shot at those teams from northeastern Ohio later on. I really don't want to see another 80-44 drubbing at the hands of the Roos, that game was embarrassing.

Beating bad teams makes us one of the good teams. The fact that these scenarios are even being debated is beyond most peoples expectations: 3-13 in the MAC last year with a brand new coaching staff and no seniors.

Now, the team is 4-2 in MAC play and getting tougher and gaining confidence by the minute.

We grind out wins by playing tough defense and praying that 4 of 10 shots fall cleanly through the basket. It ain't pretty, but with a couple exceptions, it can do the job in the conference this year.

I have to agree with 24 a bit on this one too. Yes, we're all excited to ber 4-2 at this juncture but it surely don't mean we are among the elites and we don't have to be for this season to be a general success given whats happened over the past few years. Nobody's looking at things half-empty just realizing that that 3 wins over mediocre Mac teams doesn't mean we have become All-World now. My thinking is , everything is gravy at this point . Each victory whether over a mediocre NIU or Fluffalo team is just something to give us the fuzzies every now and then to hold us until next year.

Jeez, I think I get labeled as a pessimist, but some of you are ridiculous. Look at the title of this thread. It is about this team already exceeding any expectations most had going into the season. I don't care who we have played or where we have played them. We have 4 league wins less the half way through the season. Enjoy the fact this team is winning league games. We could lose every game left and still would be better then last season. No one hear is talking about winning a championship or anything. Just enjoy what has happened thus far.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Can't we just enjoy what the team is accomplishing this year without dissecting everything?
