Can I use my ID card from 1994 to get in?
I hope they get a good turnout.

These basketball groups confuse me. Kegs and Eggs leaves around halftime and never comes back (most of the time). The Sideline Squad usually has about 5 dedicated fans that show up for EVERY game but really they seem to lack the enthusiasm they have had in past years. I do know some of them and they are usually :drinkers: so I would think they would be louder and more offensive.

As the article states, "Coaches and players will be available to talk to students about the upcoming season and the importance of having a strong Sideline Squad." I couldn't agree more that having a strong SS helps out but lets hope they bring more to the games this year. Maybe it's the fact that I didn't see the spirit or dedication from them or the fact that I wish we had an entire Sideline Squad section bouncing up and down like they do at Duke, but the fact is I want some more fan dedication at the games no matter how good the team is. We could lose every game and I will still be there no matter what!

The STUPID marketing department of our school thinks that the whole student section is the "sideline squad" so this is where the confusion comes in. They want a strong one, meaning lots of students at the games..period. That's why they pass out their own "sideline squad" shirts, which aren't even the real ones.

I always thought those orange ones marked the kids who were the Sideline Squad rejects. I know who the real Sideline Squad is and they are who I was talking about previously. I really wish they would get rid of the black shirts and go to BROWN ones though!!!

man, you guys could not be more right.

The SS has about 6 reall members that show up every game, I know, im there. If Metz remembers(since its b4 we really met) Myself, Bacn3, our mutal friends Sworden, and a few more our our crew are alwyays there, but not part of the SS. Its the one group I have trouble bootlegging entry into, as I am a ut student.

SO IF ANYONE HAS A FRIEND THAT THEY CAN TAKE TO THIS AND GET ME A SHIRT, YOU CAN BE MY BEST FRIEND, AND ILL BAKE YOU COOKIES OR SOMETHING.

<end stupid all caps AIM typing>

WE've bee toying with the idea to make our own "SS" shirts, but not really SS shirts. Since we represent more than the actually SS. There is usually a decent student base there, but never enough. As small as AA is, we should be able to pack that place with only students every game. Its 2 hours people, and there isnt hours of tailgatign preggame. a 2 hour Bball game should not be hard to fit into a college schedule, I drove down from toledo for these games, which adds over an hour. seriously, the students need to show up for these games. if we packed that place, we would never lose a home game again. ever. McLeod's sr. year, with a house of 5k students, we could beat anyone, and I guarantee that. Duke could come to our house and get sent home with a big fat L.

that is the power of AA. there is NO other place like it in the country. IF people would realize this, think of what we could accomplish. All we need is students to make noice. is that so hard? no, its really not.
I wish we had an entire Sideline Squad section bouncing up and down like they do at Duke
Yeah its really not hard for us to do that either. We shouldnt have a problem packing that place every game. Its a shame that we do.

<end rant>

sorry, sorta got caught up there for a minute.

basically, if anyone can pilfer me a SS shirt, ill gladly reward them acordingly. If not, Bacn3- we may have to take matters into our own hands.

Things are changing this year...believe me. I've even been involved in a few discussions regarding the future of the Sideline Squad. A real organization, NOT the entire student body/student section.

Don't jump all over the marketing department yet... they realized just what you're talking about and are implementing changes...

I've talked with them about this also. Last year we discussed it and they basically asked what would be a good trade off for us being in the group and wanted my brothers and I to be the "leaders" of the group. The only problem was...the SS is a group that is out there on their own and no one really knows how to get in. We weren't about to try and become the "real" sideline squad when there already was one. I know the MKT dept is trying, but last year, they basically just asked us to do it ourselves and I felt like they were passing the buck to us, but giving us nothing in return.

The Kegs 'n' Eggs group from about 3 years ago was a pretty good group of good fans. The past 2 years its been a group of kids that show up drunk off their asses about 3:00 into the game. They feel they should be guaranteed the front seats, where some of us have been sitting for over an hour already. They all smell like they're about ready to vomit. Then they leave at halftime and don't return.

The least they could do is show up on time and yell for the team the entire game. Is that too much to ask?

i dont think they were quite that bad hammb, but i know the exact ppl you are refering too. You and I and others would be there an hour b4 the game and get our seats, only to be cramped later b/c of all the latecomers thinking they are sweet b/c they ahve SS shirts.

We should make our OWN "SS" type shirts, and begin our own tradition.

Woah! I think i jsut had a good idea, and coming from a ut student, this is almsot unheard of. ;) What do you think Hammb? WHat they really need is someone to grab the bull by the horns and get somethign going. If we made our own shirts, and put up some flyers or something, I think we could get things done. And have more than a random gang of alcoholics showing up at unknown times.

I'm with you guys too! I always sit next to Sworden and hammb when I'm not taking photos or playing my trumpet. But unlike most, I do make every game in some form of a fan! Drop me an IM later Austin and we can talk about this...
