Akron falls at Home to NIU

Post by BGSU Crazy Fan 58 »

Shocking upset in the MAC tonight as Northern Illinois defeats Akron at Rhodes Arena 88-78. First home loss for akron since a defeat to Nevada November of 2006. First conference home loss in I don't know how long. Miami also lost tonight in double OT to Western Michigan. And Kent State knocked of CMU. It looks like KSU and WMU have the 2 divisions almost locked up with big wins tonight and Central and Akron's loses. With a win tomorrow night, BG would be a full one game ahead of Miami and depending on if OU loses its next game, would be in a three way tie for second in the east with a 7-4 conference record. Big game that we need to have at Eastern to stay in the race for a first round bye.
Interesting night in the MAC.

The Huskies were 17 point underdogs...what a win for them on the road.

I now admit that I was totally wrong about Akron. I thought they were a powerhouse earlier this year, but evidently Akron = overrated.

Well, Akron lost J Wood for a few weeks due to injury and Middleton is hurting pretty badly right now.

But I won't cry for the Zippies. I'm sure the Niz remembers sitting thru that 36 point loss and watching the UA students laugh at BG coming off the floor...I know I do. That wasn't fun at all and I know our boys are looking for revenge.

It's payback time. Can we just end the week and get to the weekend? Can't wait to see both games Sat.

I wouldn't say Kent has locked up the East just yet. OU is only one game back of Kent and have already beat Kent once. If OU takes care of Toledo tonight, Saturday's Kent OU game would detrmine first place in the east...

Those are two big road wins for OU though. Realitically, I see Kent winning the East and getting the #1 seed on a tie breaker with WMU, WMU getting the 2, OU the 3, BG 4, Akron 5, and Central 6. Akron would be interesting if they get a low seed and Wood is able to make it back for the tournament... they would still be very dangerous.

You put forth a very conceivable scenario.

If BG gets the #4 seed coach Orr should run away with the coach of the year award.

I was thinking that even if we are the 5 seed.
