We lost because we gave EMU way too many offensive rebounds, went into a number of cold spells, and threw the ball away too much.bgsufalcon24 wrote:Damn the refs for calling all those damn fouls! We got homered tonight, that's for sure.

479....FOUR HUNDRED, SEVENTY NINE people for a Div 1 game. WOW>hammb wrote:Welcome to my opinionbgsufalcon24 wrote:Damn the refs for calling all those damn fouls! I was just telling that to Grant last night at the start of the game, actually. Having gone to a few road games and most of hour home games over the past few seasons that is EXACTLY what the MAC Homecourt advantage comes from.
I know that a lot of people on here won't agree, but we get a lot of favorable calls on our home court. Far more than our opposition. Conversely, those calls tend to go the other way on the road.
The refs in the MAC are really bad, and they definitely favor the home team.
That said, our loss last night was due more to a pretty lousy effort put forth than the officiating. We just didn't show up to play. EMU wanted it more and they were getting all the rebounds and loose balls. Our defense was unusually poor last night as well. We just weren't closing out on guys. Didn't help that they actually hit > 50% of their open 3 pointers, but still, they shouldn't get so many open looks like that.
The real sad thing? 479. That was the attendance listed in the box score. Sadly, that sounds about right if you include the players, coaches, media, and band. Looking around I said it didn't look like there were 500 people in the arena. Sadly, that probably was the case. Such a nice arena to sit empty.

Hammb,
Guys in the chat room were eagerly awaiting your opinion of the game last night. It was pretty funny...not funny we lost, though.
SPANK THE ZIPS!
I thought the hecklers were pretty unoriginal. Yelling "Miller sucks" or "Joe check in" was pretty lame. As for the dance team, while some were attractive, I wanted to ask many of them when their due date was.hammb wrote:My take on the game?Falconfreak90 wrote:

Well, I think I pretty much summed it up in my previous post. We just didn't want it as badly as EMU did. We pretty much lost the hustle battle the entire game. The officiating was absolutely terrible, but it's not the reason why we lost. It sure doesn't help though...this team is not built to play in games that are called so touchy...we don't have the depth.
Miller played well at times, but he should not be our primary ball handler. He takes too many risks...he'll get some easy baskets for guys, but turns it over just as often. He's a very good SF, but he's no PG. Clements came alive for stretches of the 2nd half after getting 2 quick fouls and struggling most of the first. Polk was in foul trouble all night, but was able to get some offense going when he was in there. Larson got a couple boards, but was his usual self. Knight scored some points early then seemed pretty quiet the rest of the night. Moten had a pretty good game. JoeJak really struggled last night. His shot wasn't falling and he wasn't able to get to the basket much.
Overall we didn't show good effort on defense or rebounding. That really hurt us, and we didn't have one player that had a consistently good offensive game. Miller was our best offensive player on the night, but seemed to turn it over 2-3 times when we had a chance to tie/take the lead.
One cool thing is that we did get to meet Otis Polk's HS coach. He informed us that Dee Brown is going to be a real good player for us. Discussing Otis he mentioned that he came around real late, and that he still thinks his best basketball is ahead of him.
Also, EMU's fans that were there were not bad. There were a group of 3 of them heckling coach Orr and our guys on the bench the entire game. Overall they missed a lot, but every once in awhile they had some funny lines. The 200 or so students that were there were actually able to get fairly loud once in awhile. If they could ever put 3000 people in that arena I think it'd be a great basketball venue. As it was though, it was pretty cool because we could hear most of what the coach was saying to the players
Typical MAC road game. Team shows up flat, officials favor the home team, home team wins fairly easily. That is life in this conference.
