tough loss vs Akron

Falcons go down 65-56 after leading with as little as 3 minutes to play. Akron led 37-27 before a 10-0 run brought BG back into the game.
This is a tough loss, and unfortunately due to the way our home/away games are distributed, the odds of finishing at least 8-8 conference are falling fast, especially with 3 road games left.

Just a question, is goaltending legal now? 4 points were clearly stolen from BG with non-calls

All losses are tough, but this was quite an improvement from the last outing against the Zips, particularly on the defensive end. As far as the "odds falling fast" after this loss, I don't believe we were expected to win to begin with. Of the three road games, two are with teams BG has already beaten and the third is 2-9 in the conference.
8-8 (or better) would be a nice feather in the cap, but with a brand new coach and zero seniors, this team has already shattered the preseason expectations of the media and most sane observers.

The officiating sucked, true... but you can't go 11-22 from the foul line and EVER expect to win. 12 turnovers in the first half didn't help matters either, but we have GOT to do something about the free throws.
This was a FUN game though! Loved how this team battles back when down. I have to ask though... this was the biggest crowd of the season.... Why weren't more people on their feet at the end when it was such a great and entertaining game?
Also have to comment on the sororities leaving after their sisters in SICSIC were beheaded at halftime. C'mon ladies. Would it have killed you to stay for an exciting second half of hoops??
Long road stretch now with some tough games. I think we can steal one and beat Kent at home to get a little mo heading into the tourney!

The lack of officiating early proved we were not as physical as Akron. Our young guys need to get stronger. Our inside guys flopped on the floor and didn't often come away with the ball. They really need some strengthening in comparison to Akron.
Found it interesting with the game on the line that JJ was the one going to the hoop. A little more seasoning on the freshman and he will be one nice PG. I really see potential with this group.
The student body is very disappointing. The east side bleachers has become the HS visitation and family section. Those who did show need to get out and make new friends to bring to the game. I guess we just need some more wins and higher expectations and they will come.

The student turnout is certainly disappointing, but I can't blame them. BG men's basketball has been awful the last 3 years and we played a boring brand of basketball. I think that Coach Orr is on the right track and the wins will increase over the next couple years. When we start to win a little more, the student and townie attendance will go back up. I hope this happens before AA closes its doors.

Long story short, our campus is lacking school spirit-and it's sad because I saw the Anderson Animals trying to get everyone into the game at the end and NObody would get up. Gotta keep the spirit though! GO BG.

Sadly , I noticed this as well when Frieda and short Freddie was beheaded at the last home game. A bunch of sorority girls where packed into a section of the student section than promptly left once the beheading festivities were over. Sad? Yes, but what can you do.

I know what you do, change the time of the beheading to the final media timeout of the game, or to after the game.
F**k the greeks. They don't do jack crap to support our athletic teams.

I guess moving the time would prevent this some. Why are the greeks so anti-supporting the sports teams? Has this always been the case at BG forever?

As long as I've been here it's been that way. When me and my friends go to the hockey games we're always commenting that the greeks show up midway through the second period and leave early-it boggles my freaking mind. It seems that they take it to be something to pass the time before they go out to the bars to get drunk instead of supporting our school.

When I was in school, I was greek. There was no particular sentiment either way. My house was full of hockey nuts. There would be about 40 of us going nuts at each home game. Football varied. Only me and a few other guys were basketball fans.
It's hard to believe that the greeks vary much from the student body in general. However, the athletic department should approach the greek system as a group of students that could, collectively, improve the overall support for our teams. The greeks are already organized and unified. I've never heard of the university trying to levarage the greeks for improved student support. It's something to consider.

You've got a really good point and it could absolutely work based on previous events:
Dance Marathon
BG vs UT Blood Bowl
UAO
These are just some of the events/groups that the Greeks help and organize with on campus-plus they get the free publicity for their fraternity or sorority, respectively...if you ask me, I agree with your idea-the Greeks could vastly improve the attendance at games.

I remain optimistic as well. This season has gone beyond my expectations and we never quit today against a team that beat us by 40 earlier in the year. I haven't seen this team quit in a game all year. I love the mentatility that Coach Orr has brought to this team.
it was the best .....

Well guys I think it was the best turn out since I've been coming. We had to stand outside in line just to get in. I hate that we lost, but I loved seeing the fans. They were cheering too. I bet we sent a message to Akron as they were not as vocal. They didn't know if they were going to win and all that mess talking was limited.
So to all that came thank you so much. Please we have one more home game come to that one too!!!!!
