BG has done quite well keeping this game from getting crazy and out of hand real early.

I'm watching it on ESPN Full Court. We actually got off to a good start, taking a 15-7 lead early on. Then we went over seven minutes without a point and gave up an 11-0 run to let them right back into it. Our defense looks good at times, but we really struggle to put the ball in the hole. I really hope some of the newcomers next year can score because we really need help offensively.

And then we decided to not show up in the second half. But hey, we played tough for 20 minutes.

To say we got destroyed in the second half would be a huge understatement. After playing a solid first half, we looked scared, confused, careless, disinterested and way overmatched. It's baffling to think we actually beat this team after this performance tonight. Stat of the game: Ohio outscored BG 31-4 on points off of turnovers. That's ballgame. BG had 19 turnovers with OU posting 13 steals and with the exception of JJ hitting a few threes in the final minutes, we couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn in the second half. With under 8:00 to play in the second period, we had scored a measly five points. I repeat, five points. That was the worst half of basketball I have seen us play this year and it was easily up there with the outing against Akron on the road.

And is anybody surprised about this? Anybody?

There was little doubt that we were going to be fed to the wolves, err, bobcats tonight.

As bad as it was, remember how Ohio played against us here. Tonight they were having a lot of fun at our expense late in the game with long 3 pointers from players that never shoot them and windmill dunks. Where were they the first game when we held them to 50 some odd points in a very humbling loss against us? Life on the road is tough...especially with no senior leadership. What's OU's excuse for having not won on the road in the MAC this year?

Good point, Cowboy. Whether by 3 or 21, a loss is a loss and nothing changes the fact BG beat OU at AA. OU will not win the MAC Tourney and are the most underachieving MAC team I've seen in a long time.

Exactly. It's frustrating when every defeat is made out to be like Armageddon. No team in the MAC is perfect, and that seems to be the standard by which some choose to evaluate BG. I love this program and want to win badly, but I'm also not going to rip this team apart after every loss when they're in the midst of a rebuilding process with a new coach, no seniors and two freshmen in the starting lineup.

Under Dakich, there were systemic problems (i.e. 1/3 of the roster transferring every year) that damaged the team in both the short and long term. That has been rectified and we're already in the top half of the conference in the infancy of Coach Orr's rebuilding project. Perfect? No. Damn good for the cards we've been dealt recently? Absolutely.

As bad as some of these losses have been, I am definitely excited about the future of BG Hoops. It looks like we have a ton of YOUNG talent and the rest of the bad seeds Dakich brought in (Hamblet) aren't going to mess with that. Louis Orr has done an excellent job this season and has gotten some wins that Dakich never would have got. If Dakich is the coach, we probably don't beat Cinci on the road and there is no way we beat OU, even at home. I expected lots of growing pains, but I honestly didn't expect BG to be 6-7 in the MAC right now...That's double the MAC wins of last season...and we're 2 wins short of last season's total. Louis is figuring things out very quickly...especially who is here to play for this TEAM and who isn't. The future is so bright for the Falcons, I need sunglasses to look at it.

This season is already a success as far as I'm concerned. I want to see them do more, but they certainly don't have to for the year to be seen as a good starting point. If Dan is still the coach, I'm not sure how many wins we have. I do know that our ability to play zone defense (at least 30% of the time this year) has helped immensely in a lot of our wins. I don't know if we could've won those games by playing man, but I know that Dan would not have played zone. This flexibility and the ability to adapt is a good step in the right direction.

I still don't think this team is all that talented, and it's especially evident when our opposition puts forth a good defensive effort. Our offense wants to be dictated by a primary ball handler penetrating. Miller is our only guy who can consistently beat his man off the dribble, and he's not a PG, as much as we are trying to make him into one.

When I look at the roster as it stands right now our best offensive players are Moten & Miller; both of whom would be outstanding role players on a good team, but neither is the type of guy you want to shoulder the responsibility of leading a team.

Jakubowski, Polk, and Knight are all talented players that lack polish & consistency. Madlock likely fits into this group as well, but really haven't seen enough of him to gauge where he'll end up.

Clements, Sims, and Larson just don't look like Division 1 basketball players.

When I look at our biggest weaknesses offensively it's shooting and turnovers. Our turnovers seem to be in large part ball handling mistakes (carries, travels, 5 seconds, lose our dribble). You may be able to polish some things, but I really don't think you can teach kids how to shoot & dribble the ball. Those are natural abilities, that we seem to really lack across the board. It's why we're terrible on the free throw line, are pretty bad behind the arc, and turn the ball over 15-20 times every game.

I'm hopeful that Jakubowski becomes a good PG for us, but other than him we still don't have much in the way of guards for future seasons. Hopefully Dee Brown is ready to play because this is a lineup that a quality guard could step right into.

Despite these talent flaws we're near .500 in the conference and overall. To me this is a tremendous coaching effort, and worthy of COY consideration. I still think we'll make some noise in the conference tourney. This season is already a success as far as I'm concerned. Orr stepped into a terrible program and has started to turn it around, that's all we can ask from this year.

I would like to see one more win and at least one torunament win, but Coach Orr took lemons and made lemonade, doubled the league wins, got near .500, and BEAT TOLEDO! How sweet is that?

We always have hope the Marschall will be back next year and be able to contribute, I think Madlock is going to work out, so we're back to needing a pair of guards that can play point and shoot lights out. Wait, that's what we needed last year and the year(s) before that too.

I have to say I like the direction BG is heading in. I like Louis Orr and I think you guys will be a quality team in the years to come.

Not to argue, but OU has won @ UB and @ NIU. Yeah I know, tough ones

The Bobcats play to the level of their competition. They do underachieve at times, but I believe this all leads back to poor coaching. If any program this year knows what a difference a quality coach can make, it should be BG.

Anyway, good luck Saturday against Detroit and the rest of the MAC season. I look forward to watching your team in Cleveland.
