I watched the first two MAC games of the Bracket Buster on ESPN2 between Akron vs. VCU and Ohio vs. George Mason. Akron just looked out of synch to me, especially down the stretch. Nick Dials forced and took a couple of bad shots in the final minutes and the Zips as a team just looked panicked to me. VCU was very poised and compossed and just looked like the better team and won 57-52 in JAR Arena. Woods as back for Akron so they weren’t short-handed in that regard, and Akron has now lost back-to-back games at home which hasn’t happened in awhile.
In the second game, George Mason looked like it was going to run Ohio right out of The Convo early on as GMU led by as many as 17 points and led by 13 at the half, 32-19. In the second half, Ohio simply destroyed Mason. After an erratic first half, Bubba Walther took over in the second and was draining three after three after three and also made some great passes and steals. That kid can be out of control at times, but today, he was toying with GMU in the second period and was unstoppable. Leon Williams was also his usual self and a force down low. The O-Zone (OU’s student section) was packed and electric and made me remember how just years ago Anderson Arena had that kind of turnout and support. OU won 69-57 and outscored Mason 50-25 in the second half. I still think Tim O’Shea is the MAC’s best recruiter (I said recruiter, not coach) and OU just can’t seem to be beaten at home. When they play like this, they are the MAC’s top team IMO and are still my pick to win the MAC Tournament.
Miami at Valpo (ESPN Classic) and Kent State at St. Mary’s (ESPN2) are also on later today.
MAC in the Bracket Buster today: OU was hot, UA was not

That was a huge win for Kent State. It looked like St. Mary's was going to start pulling away mid-second half, but Kent State got it together. It looks like we're going to really have our hands full against them again. Kent State has won the last six, count 'em.....six.....games at Anderson Arena! I have a bad feeling they're going to make it seven. I wonder what the record is for most consecutive home losses to one team? If Kent's current run isn't it, it's got to be close.BourbonFalcon wrote:Kent looked awesome down the stretch as they won their first regular season game ever over a ranked opponent. Great game!
Also, the MAC went 6-5 in the event yesterday with NIU the only team having not played a game. MAC winners were BG, OU, KSU, WMU, EMU and UB.
GO BG!!!
