Flashback of one of the all-time amazing BG games!!!

I came across this box score (link below) of a BG/Miami game from January 22, 1997 when I was in school at BGSU and man do I wish I could watch this game over again. It’s the game where BG rallied from 25 points down in the second half to win by three in what was one of my (if not the) all-time favorite games ever at Anderson Arena. Looking back at this box score, it’s cool how there were three guys that played in this game (Antonio Daniels, Wally Szczerbiak & Ira Newble) who are currently still playing in the NBA, and you also had some MAC greats such as Anthony Stacey and Devin Davis (loved the dreads!) who played in this game too. I’ll never forget when early in the second half with BG trailing by 20-something, I turned to one of my buddies next to me in a then-silent Anderson Arena and half jokingly said we needed to go on a 20-0 run. And we did! During that run, Antonio Daniels just took over and Anderson Arena was no doubt the “House That Roars” that night. The crowd was going crazy for what seemed like an hour straight. The student section was going so crazy I was literally waiting for the bleachers to give way. What a great, great game that was! Ten years later, I still feel privileged to have been one of the 4,027 in attendance that night. Were any of you all there that night too?

33, thanks for bringing back my single favorite BG basketball memory. I was working with the sports info office at the time as a student volunteer and in the press box that night. It was so loud in the arena we could not hear each other up there. It was incredible as we recorded what was happening and you just knew it was something special as it happened. Somewhere in my house, probably in a box in my basement, I still have the stats that are released by the SID to the media with the game play-by-play. It is great to look at the 20-whatever to 0 run that BG went on.

My best AA Memory has to be the UT/BG Basketball game in the spring of 05...even if it is Dakich's least favorite...down 34-17 at the half, BG rallied all the way back to win, by 1, if memory serves me correctly. While this was an amazing game, it was also the end of a career that could have been great, and, according to Dakich, led to his demise as well.

You're a pack rat like that too, huh? Going through some boxes after we moved in, I keep finding box scores and programs and other stuff I snagged from my time with BGRSO.

I have been accused of being a pack rat! I worked in the press box at about every football and basketball game during my four years at BG and I kept or tried to keep all the box scores and media notes and programs and all that kind of stuff and still have most of them. It is fun to go back through and look at some of that stuff. It brings back a lot of great memories of some great moments in BG sports history.

I recently found my hand-written box score from the night Kevin Lune fought that kid from OSU in the tunnel of the Fairgrounds Coliseum...

Didn't AD score 33 including the game winning runner with no time left?

Oh no, trust me, I am very proud of my status as a pack rat and what I meant was that I have often been accused of being one. Certainly not a new accusation!

I don't remember his exact point total, but the game was against Eastern Michigan and he did make the winning bucket. It would have been quite ironic if it was 33 because he changed his number to 33 to honor his brother. That was another of my all-time favorite memories of BG hoops. It was also when I realized how classless Eastern Michigan fans were when they wouldn't shut the hell up when they were trying to have a moment of silence. Coach L had to walk across the floor to try and get them to be quiet. AD sure shut them up with his play and a Falcon victory.

If you ever dig some of those box scores out and have a scanner with PDF-ability, definitely let me know... I've got some crazy ideas in my head!

30... I actually think I might have come across that one in my unpacking, believe it or not... if not, you might be able to backtrack through that USAToday link. The "AD" game was in late February 1996. Actually, it may have been a Valentine's Day game, come to think of it...

For future reference, the USA Today of the time files the "schedule of the day" under this format:

XX = the last two digits of the year (96, in this case)
YYY= the day of the year (Jan. 1 is "001", etc.)

Love the link TG! It boggles my mind I remember Antonio, and Stacey, and Kirk, and every other player on the team that year but Dayon Ninkovic! For some reason, I don't remember anything about him other than Grant telling me he had a foul-line dunk in the Hoops for Halloween once (I think that's when?). But I do remember that game, and Antonio's winning basket...I just don't know why I can't remember the guy who was the leading scorer

As for the Miami reference...Waaaaaaally waaaaaaally waaaaaaally YOU SUCK! Anyone remember that?!

Yeah, and apparently, he had a "Den" or something...

He'd probably be somewhat forgettable to me, too, along the lines of Koen Rouwhorst, but Ninkovic lived on my floor at Offenhauer junior year (half of which year was spent with AD as my next door neighbor).

What an interesting answer to a trivia question that he was leading scorer, considering the enormity of that game in BG lore.

I could be wrong, but I think you might be thinking about Koen Rouwhorst as the one who dunked from the foul line. I worked with the team for a couple years and while Dayon was my boy and all, no way he was putting one down from the foul line. Antonio and Koen were both able to do it though. Koen not only had good jumping ability, he had one helluva wing span and looked more like a stork than a Falcon when he took off from the line!
