It sounds like DD was dealing with a bunch of nutjobs!
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP)—Indiana coach Tom Crean will not reinstate Armon Bassett and Jamarcus Ellis, who were ordered off the team in March.
Interim coach Dan Dakich dismissed the players for missing an appointment and then failing to show up to run laps as part of their punishment.
Crean also said on Friday that DeAndre Thomas will not return to the team.
On Thursday, freshman Eli Holman told coaches he intended to transfer before apparently throwing a tantrum in their office that required a call to the campus police. Crean says Holman will not return.
Crean says the moves are “bumps in the road” toward developing a family like atmosphere.

Wow! I've always felt Falcon Nation was hard on DD for the number of players that left the program, although I know Coach Dakich needed to take some of the blame. But that article is all about his integrity which is what I think everyone should admire. I didn't fault him for going to WVU, I think he realized that their program was as suspect as Sampson's.
Way to go Coach for doing the right thing at IU!

It's just a shame that Dan did the right thing and is crucified by those among us because of some remarks he made about BGSU.
It had to be tough to know what action to take, and that taking such action would probably result in your not getting the ultimate job in your career. But Dan stepped up and took the action he needed to.

I don't think any school ever made a bigger mistake than hiring Kelvin Sampson at Indiana.

Agreed times infinity. To have a program that has the ability hire just about anyone they wish and grab one that already has the NCAA living in his basement? They deserve everything they got.
And as for the "crucifying", transfer... here I thought you'd been paying attention to what came out of the man's mouth. I agree that he did the right thing with the IU situation, he never had a chance with most of those thugs from the get go. He did well just to get them on the bus to his first game. But to me, forgiving some of what he said about BG because he did right by IU is like him calling my mother a whore, but patting him on the back for helping an old lady across the street while he does it.

+1.
I think most BG fans appreciated the fact that Dakich had demanding standards of behavior and accountability. The beef was that he didn't recruit enough players who were able to abide by those standards, leaving us perpetually undermanned.

Dan is a no win situation unto himself

Eli was escorted all the way to University of Detroit-Mercy where he'll play for former IU assistant Ray McCallum. BTW why would Crean say Holman would not return, when the player indicated before hand that he was transferring? How many transferees every return?

I guess Holman told the coaches he was transferring to be closer to home (California). I bet the whole incident with the tantrum was when the coaches found out he was going to Detroit, instead of closer to home.
