The Warriors... DII school from Detroit. Head coach David Greer (BGSU '83). AD Rob Fournier (former MAC associate commish and conference legal counsel and is an Akron grad). Assistant coach Lorenzo Neely (First-team all-MAC at Eastern).

Lots of MAC blood in the administration of this team. David Greer was my first "favorite player" at BGSU... well, maybe second, after Mike Midday... but Greer was such a great point guard!

I don't think we'll have too much trouble with them, but there is always that feeling that "local" guys with MAC connections might want to prove something against a MAC school/alma-mater.

Anyone know anything else about Rob Fournier?? The name seems REALLY familiar to me, but I couldn't place him beyond former MAC legal eagle. Why do the Lions come to mind?

Along with Bill and Joe Faine and David Jenkins, David Greer was great to watch. I can't remember ther year, early to mid 80's, my dad and I went to see them play at Mi. State and they had a chance to win with a last second David Jenkins 40 ft. shot that went just short. I was young but I remember Greer making Scott Skiles look like he didn't know where he was.

A former HR guy at work interviewed Greer for a job once. Not sure how we let him go since the HR guy was a HUGE Falcon fan. Would have made our office hoops team a little better. What was that guy's name? All I remember was this quote "Jason Crump will be the dominate offensive force in the MAC". Hmmmm..... :-D

Yeah, I heard the story about that... but don't know the details as to why he wasn't hired. He ended up managing a First Federal S&L branch in BG instead.

Maybe dad DID offer, but Greer was intimidated by the pressure of playing against you at lunch? I'm guessing that was it...

Oh, there was never a question about that. Greer was very open in saying he did not have the quickness to stay with me and he would never be able to stop my dribble drive. Still, he would have occasionally gotten to play on my team and that's why I'm so perplexed that he didn't come to work for us.

I got to know Rob when the MAC offices moved to Cleveland from Toledo. I work for the Chamber of Commerce in Cleveland and we helped him with the move. In fact, the MAC offices were in our offices temporarily until their space was completed in Tower City. Rob's office was just down the row from mine and we used to talk MAC sports quite a bit. He was always a nice guy and he's the one that got me started as a volunteer at the basketball tournament each spring. This will be my tenth year helping put the men's and women's games on at The Q.

David Greer was the best pure point guard I ever saw play at BG...and that includes Antonio Daniels. He was listed at 5'9" but I don't know if he was that tall. My roomate was from Barberton and he played against Greer in high school. Consequently, I got to know David a little bit. He was a great person off the court as well. I am not surprised he went into coaching. He was always a coach on the floor. I still remember what huge thighs he had. He was short but so strong.

Oh man, it doesnt matter to me who we are playing tonight, im just completely pumped to get into AA for basketball season to start!! I seriously cant wait. Go Falcons! As for Wayne State, seeing as how we beat them last year, and I believe we are better this year, it shouldnt be too close. Hoping for a big turnout too!! Heres to a great night for Mens BB :partyman:

Actually the Stroh Center isn't scheduled to be complete until 2012. Not sure exactly what time of the year (guessing late summer-early fall). So at least 4 more seasons in AA!!!!!!

BG rolls along, winning 80-48. Defense really clamped down in the 2nd half. I was really impressed, an all around good game. Dont have any stats, but i think one standout had to be Miller, very impressive performance. I think this year will be very exciting for men's bb.
