Best alltime player at every current MAC school

Post by Globetrotter »

I was thinking who are the best alltime players at each of the MAC schools. The older guys in here would be best at piecing this together. (PS I got some of this info from Wikipedia's MAC page. It lists each member and then their endowment....what does that mean?)

Bowling Green State Nate Thurmond

University at Buffalo Turner Battle

Kent State University Antonio Gates

Miami University Ron Harper

Ohio University Gary Trent

Ball State University Ray McCallum

Central Michigan University Chris Kaman

Eastern Michigan University Earl Boykins

Northern Illinois University

University of Toledo Steve Mix

Western Michigan University Joe Reitz

Earl Boykins was a solid player, but what about the Iceman George Gervin? True he was "asked" to leave school after getting into it with a racist fan, but nobody finger rolled like the Iceman! When EMU made it's Sweet 16 run in 91, they had a few good players, named Kennedy, and the Thomas twins, followed up with Grant Long who had a solid career in the NBA.

As far as Kent State goes, what about Antonio Gates or Trevor Huffman?

Ohio- maybe the Shaq of the Mac, Gary Trent.

Miami- Wally Szerbiak?

Buffalo Turner Battle?

Western Michigan - Joe Reitz has been their best player in a while.

I'm interested to hear other's thoughts on things!

Is this best in college? Or are we taking pro careers into consideration?

I'm good with most of GT's guys. Other names for consideration:

Western: Reitz isn't even close. Gene Ford maybe or Jeff Tyson but I'd go with Walker D. Russell (always with the D.).

Northern: Allan Rayhorn or Kenny Battle

Ohio: Tough one-they've had so many guys go into the NBA. Trent was good and stayed around but hard to not go with Walter Luckett here. Dave Jamerson was a BIGTIME scorer, Snoopy Graham was also a great player there and who could forget Denny Rusch? Well, OK, just about everybody forgot Denny Rusch. He gets my vote as scariest guy to ever play in the MAC.

Central: Dan Roundfield. Kaman or Majrle would be a good choice as well. Again a team that's had a ton of big time players although not so much recently.

Toledo: Mix probably, but Chuck Chuckovits was the All-American as was Bob Gerber. Gerber, I believe, led the Rockets to the NIT runner-up when the NIT was the de facto National Championship tournament.

Buffalo I know very little about except recent stuff.

Miami: Wayne Embry, but I'd go with Harper. He was as good as anyone I've seen in the MAC.

Where's Crackron on the list? I don't know if I would go with that Bosley kid who stole car stereos or Angie Hipsher, an all-time Anderson Area favorite.

Globetrotter, I don't know if this forum is appropriate to explain this to you. :-)

Missed that altogether on my first read- :-D can't speak to that for any of these guys. Not sure that's relevant to hoops unless your endowment is so special that it gets in your way.

If you are thinking pro then Thurmond might be the guy, but you have to say Butch Komives was the best player while AT BG.

Central Michigan, now way Kaman is better than Dan Marjlie (sp)

I think Bonzi Wells over Ray at Ball State

A university's endowment is a fund used to support various things including scholarships, programs, faculty positions, etc.. The money used is that earned from interest. The principle isn't spent.

Now, we know Nate Thurmond went on to have a great NBA career, but what about Anthony Stacey? He was one of the best BG has ever seen and is still playing in Europe...Spain I think...was awesome in High School too...got to see him at Midview, but never at BG.
