I know this is kind of an odd topic to bring up mid-season. But with the struggles of getting butts in the seats for home games, I began thinking about the schedule.
Why does BG not take any buy games? Is it a G. Christopher thing? I remember asking him if we were ever going to play Xavier or Dayton, his answer was that they would not come up here and play.
Why not take a few more buy games every year? This season I'm guessing Ohio St was a buy game and Minnesota to a degree. I don't understand the rational behind not taking them. It is a guaranteed 50-70k, a great chance to show off the program to large crowds in different markets (Dayton and Cincinnati specifically), and a great chance to pull off a huge upset. Obviously BG would be able to compete with schools like Dayton and Xavier, heck we gave OSU all they wanted and more this year.
I just don't understand the point of a Wayne St. at home or Towson at home. There was less than 3,000 people there for those games combined. Or if you wanted to keep Wayne St. why give Savannah St. a home and home? Replace the Savannah States of the world with a buy game every year and play Wayne St as a strict home game every year. Wouldn't it be better for the program to play in front of 12,000 people somewhere collect a large paycheck and have a legit chance of pulling off a big upset?
Just my 2 cents.
Buy games?
I like this idea.. the only thing I see that works against us in this situation is a few extra wins.. regardless of how putrid the opponent is.. can go a long way for boosting the confidence of a team that has struggled to have success in recent years as they proceed into conference play.
But you're right, I'd love to see us go play an extra big 10/big east team each year and get just that much more exposure... as long as that exposure isn't us getting drubbed by 35
