MAC West = joke

Post by bgsufalcon24 »

The MAC East went 5-0 against the West Division today. Collectively since cross-division play began, the East is 21-2 against the West. Worse, no teams in the West division have a winning record right now. What's even sadder for the West is that the Ohio Bobcats are the ONLY team in the East that isn't undefeated against the West after today. Buffalo, Bowling Green, Miami, and Kent State are all 4-0, while Akron is 3-0 with a game tomorrow at home vs WMU.

The really sad thing is that one of these teams is going to steal a 1st round bye in the MAC Tournament from a more deserving East team, possibly BG.

Very true. Similar to football where an undeserving Buffalo stole a MACC slot from Central or Western.

RPI rankings for MAC West:

Ball State: 207

Western Michigan: 265

Central Michigan: 283

Toledo: 312

Northern Illinois: 335

Eastern Michigan: 336

Keep in mind, this is out of 343

Worst RPI in the East is Kent State at 198 (BG is 2nd worst in the East at 159, with Miami at 54 and Buffalo at 78)

Over the past few weeks, our RPI has been whipping between 100 and 200. In this range of the RPI, it doesn't take much to make big changes in where you rank - there is a lot of cluster. I just hate having a 3-digit RPI ranking next to "Bowling Green".

It's mind boggling how many horrible programs there are in the MAC right now. Joplin couldn't recruit and left Toledo in its worst state in my lifetime. NIU has been consistently dismal for a long time. It's been a few years for the new coaches at EMU and CMU, and they just can not get on track. WMU fell off the table this year (what the hell is going on with Hawkin's program?). #206 Ball State is actually a pleasant surprise this year, just a few years removed from ex-"coach" Thompson's chemical spill.

I wouldn't say Toledo was in that bad of shape. Cross had 4 starters back from a team that was the no. 8 seed in Cleveland last year. Amos and Kent are two of the top players in the league--no doubt about that.

Are you kidding? Toledo has 3 wins against Division I, a one point win against Massachusetts, a win against Central Michigan, and one against Eastern Michigan, but I'm not even sure they're a D-I team.

He didn't say we weren't bad-pay attention. He's referring to the statement that Joplin couldn't recruit. We lost one guy from last year's team that was 11-18 with a brutal non-con schedule. Eighth seed at the MAC and won our first round game against BG. The notion that those guys are untalented is not accurate-Kent was the leading scorer (albeit with a lousy shooting percentage) in the MAC and Amos has led the league in steals I think the last two years with Kent close behind. We're all shaking our heads over this team but its not a lack of recruiting-If you believe that then you have to think Jarrah Young was a total stud and Stan recruited him because he's the only significant loss.

And UT is two years from a Joplin recruited MAC championship team with Justin Ingram, Florentino Valencia and Keonte Howell as senior starters with that team. An empty cupboard is not Gene Cross' problem.

Akron defeats Western Michigan 87-63 at the JAR, the East is now 22-2 vs the West this season.

Shame that WMU couldn't win that one and put BG into 3rd place.

Them having an RPI in the 300's is bad for our SOS, that's for sure.

Ditto for EMU.

Damn we need to win these next two.
