Observations

Post by renorvis »

I am so excited about the current win streak and I love the way we are grinding out games. We have been playing some great defense, on the road especially. But I have made some interesting observations over the course of the last few games. And that is our lack of getting the ball in the post. OP had maybe 100 pounds over the center for Toledo and our guards would not consistenly feed him the ball. This boggles my mind so much to where it is starting to irritate me. Our guards are so selfish and ball hungry it takes away from the rest of the team. Some may say they are being aggressive, I say they are being selfish. Another observation, Chris had the mismatch in the post with Amos guarding him. The guards did not even swing the ball to his side! He has good scoring ability but is not been given a chance to display it.
I am confused why Nate can get the ball and score in the post against defenders the same size as him. But OP and Chris can't even get the ball with a MISMATCH! This should not be happening we have size in the post and do not utilize it. Our guards are okay, but no that good to keep all the scoring to themselves. Granted we are winning but it frustrates me to see Chris and OP to work hard posting up and get position and not be rewarded. I was taught that when you big men work hard you have to reward them. When they run the floor, you have to reward them. We don't even push the ball on the fastbreak. Instead I see three guards trying to get the so they can score. I see Nate going coast to coast and missing bunnies! We do not pass ahead to the open man or let JoJak run the point as he should.
Go Falcons am exicted about our chances to win the MAC, but these things concern me because they can be exploited by good team in the NIT or the NCAA's.

Because easly in the game when we tried to get him the ball, they fronted the post and we tried to lob it over, and another defender would steal it and they would get a run out. They had about 20 fast break opportunities. SO in the second half our guards were leary of that they were fronting him and denying the ball. You can't discredit anything DC did last night. he was awesome. i believe that he is the most important player on the team. The glue if you will.

Polk got the ball low several times in the second half and I expected him to power it up. He repeatedly passed out even when he had position. Afraid of fouling maybe? Knight is a real cipher- he didn't show up last night at all. He is a third year soph, correct? I thought he would be a real force this year.

We seemed to match up very well defensively-BG's threes hurt the most, or more correctly our inability to shoot hurt us. Two more made threes and we would still have a terrible percentage but we would have won.

Miller probably had the best all round game for BG last night-I'm guessing BG will see a lot of pressure the rest of the year if you haven't already. Your point guard seemed to get flustered a lot- on the other hand he sure can shoot. We can not run ANY semblance of an offensive scheme. Until Amos started exploiting the middle and getting to the line we spent 20 seconds passing back and forth from wings to the point on every possession. Its been a frustrating year for sure.

What about a lob pass to Chris? He certainly can manuver himself better than Polk.

Well, we have struggled against pressure from time to time. Hopefully, we will work on it.
