Miller And Moten Named All-Conference

Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green senior Nate Miller has been named to the All-MAC First Team and senior Brian Moten has been named to the All-MAC Honorable Mention team. Miller was named to the honorable mention team each of the past two years, while Moten was named the MAC’s Sixth Man of the Year in 2007-08 but has not been named to the all-conference team before.

Miller was named a preseason All-MAC selection and lived up to the billing by leading the Falcons in scoring (12.7 points per game), rebounding (7.5 rebounds per game) and steals (2.11 per game). He ranks in the top 10 in the conference in rebounding and field goal percentage, while leading the MAC in steals. He closed the year strong, posting five double-doubles in the last 10 games as Bowling Green went 7-3 during that stretch, including 7-2 in conference.

Miller was named MAC East Player of the Week Feb. 9 after back-to-back double-doubles in wins over Western Michigan and Central Michigan. He went over 1,000 career points by scoring 22 against Canisius and is one of only four players in program history with 1,000 career points, 500 career rebounds and 125 career steals. Miller has a pair of long active streaks of 18 consecutive games with at least five rebounds and 20 consecutive games with at least seven points.

Moten was named to the honorable mention team and is one of the deadliest three-point shooters in the conference, ranking third in the MAC in three-pointers made per game. He is seventh in career three-pointers made in Bowling Green history with 127 made three’s. When the Falcons lost starting forward Chris Knight to an injury, Moten stepped up his game the most, scoring at least 14 points in each of the next four games.

He made six three-pointers as the team won at Buffalo and added five more in a victory at Akron in a battle of teams tied for first place. Moten also knocked down five three-pointers in an earlier victory at Central Michigan. In the Falcons’ six-game MAC road winning streak, Moten made 21-of-44 (48 percent) three-pointers.

Bowling Green ended the regular season with a record of 18-12 overall and 11-5 in the Mid-American Conference. The Falcons shared the MAC Eastern Division Championship with Buffalo and earned the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament by virtue of their season sweep of Buffalo.

Congrats Nate and Brian!

I was wondering this morning if Miller may have snuck his name into the POY conversation with the way he carried the team to first place.

He was also named Player of the Week for the East this week.

The way he played down the stretch in the MAC race, I hope he at least gets some votes. I'm not sure how he stacks up statistically, but there is no doubt that his improved play was the reason we won the MAC.

Wow...we won the MAC. That's fun to say! Congrats to both our guys!

There is absolutely no player in the MAC than I'd rather have right now than Nate Miller. Not even close.

Unless he's at the foul line right? :D Only kidding, but I wish he'd pick that skill set up a bit....I've said it before...our lack of FT accuracy is gonna come back and bite us...we survived 60% FT shooting against OU, because they weren't in the game for some reason...but the tournament could be another story altogether...there's not much separating the top five teams in the East er MAC.

I'd say he stacks up very well statistically. He's down the list a bit in PPG, and he ranks higher in just MAC games by a couple spots there. He's top 5 in rebounds (both all games and MAC-only) and top 2 in steals. (1st in all games, 2nd in MAC only). Oh, and he leads the MAC in defensive rebounds in both lists.

Initially looking at the first teamers, I initially figured Bramos to be the front runner and his numbers sort of back that up, but even looking at it objectively, I don't know that he's had the all-around year Nate has had. Tillman probably compares closest, but OU didn't finish .500 in conference and he laid an egg against BG, with one point.

Fisher averages a couple PPG more and ranks in assists, but nothing extraordinary (3.5ish a game) and is behind Nate in steals. Besides, Kent wasn't in the mix in the season's final week while Miller was winning East POW honors.

Pierce shows up in the top 10 scoring, but nowhere else in any significant category.

Add that in with the intangibles and leadership he seems to bring to the floor (minus the FT shooting, though the other four all shot 74% or better), I think he's got a hell of a shot at being the 5th Falcon to win POY.
