BG WINS!!!!!!!!
Good game by our falcons today! Good defense throughout. Bradley has a very long , big and athletic team. Don't know for the life of me why Lefeld hasn't been playing.
What gives? Is he still injured ,not playing well in practice or what? I'm sure glad it didn't seem to faze us though.

They looked great out there! My high hopes previous to the season starting are just getting bigger! The only thing I noticed was (like Indiana), every player fakes before driving. This caused us to not take some REALLY open shots and get a lot of stuff blocked when driving in. All of their players had some major ups though so the blocks can be accounted for there, too. Go Falcons!!

Not sure why Lefeld doesn't play much, but when he gets in there he has to make something happen. I think it was Phillips that gave him a nice feed for a layup and he bobbled it out of bounds. I hope he keeps working and can play himself into a steady rotation because we are going to need some bangers on the inside.falconboy wrote:Don't know for the life of me why Lefeld hasn't been playing. What gives? A couple observations from my first game of the season: Vandermeer missed a free throw and an open jumper, but he looked to have good touch for a big guy. The point guard situation with John Floyd and "Moon" Robinson is in good hands. This team is fun to watch and plays very unselfishly. I liked the timeout promotions with t-shirts, hats, mini basketballs, etc. I wish they did similar things at football games. I'm sold on this team after today's game and I'm going to make as many games as my work schedule will allow.

The women's team made out quite nicely with the "apathetic fan giveaways" at the UIC game, too.BGGrad01 wrote: I liked the timeout promotions with t-shirts, hats, mini basketballs, etc.

This club is MILES ahead of last season at any time (I saw seven games).
Lots of good team play -- We gave up way too many baseline drives but did a good job of keeping the ball alive on missed shots. Good hustle, diving after balls and getting into the mix. I think we dribble too much, especially on feeds inside. Guess I like short fade away jump shots.
Fun to watch. Think I'll go to Detroit. It will be good to see how they play on the road. I have a good feeling about this bunch. It looks like we have guys who work together. Except for the last five minutes of the first half when we didn't score, it was a fun game to watch.

I used to attend all the BG games (season ticket holder) through the 80s and 90s, but stopped going a couple of years ago because of student/coach behaviors. The last game I attended was the U. of Findlay game last year --- and nothing had changed. I "sat" in the Eastside bleachers, but was forced to stand for the entire game (as were many of the Findlay spectators) because the BG students paraded in and decided to stand and block everybody's view. And, of course, we had to listen to the usual volume of obscenities exuded from the big mouths. And then there was the coach loosing his cool, over a call and slamming his jacket to the floor. As I recall, that jacket took quite a beating that game. I love BG basketball and would love to go back, but not under these circumstances. If standing is the norm now, why have seats; why not just construct platforms. I suppose I'm very alone in my views.

Dr. Bucko, it is a shame you had a bad experience at your last BG game. However, you chose to sit in the student section with your general admission ticket. I suggest that if you buy a GA ticket to sit in the south bleachers on the second level or buy a reserve seat, that way the students will not get in your view.
As for Coach D. throwing his jacket, that is just his style. However, since last year, I think Coach D. has settled down quite a bit since his probation by the MAC. I think he is doing a much better job at controlling his emotions, IMO. Plus, you should go to the game to watch the players more than the coach. I think that would make a huge difference in your game day experience.

BGorDeath said it best about finding different seats but really you should be glad about your problem at the Findlay game. I'd like to think us standing up actually gets into the oppositions heads. When there is 2 feet of orange separating the entire sideline of students standing and yelling at the players and refs, it has to get to them. Last night one of the players told us to F off so we just kept taunting him. Just be glad there are students at the games cheering on the team. If we were all sitting the entire game, it'd get pretty boring in my opinion.Dr. Bucko wrote:If standing is the norm now, why have seats; why not just construct platforms. You're alone in your views?
....yeah, Dr. Bucko, I'd say you're alone in your views. You're very alone, and rather clueless too. If you don't want to stand, get out and stay out of the student section. The games are for the students first, and this rowdy section is what makes AA the "House that Roars" and gives us one of the best home court advantages in the country. Our program doesn't need the students sitting on their hands, or people detracting from their spirit at games.

I won't go so far as to call you clueless Bucko, but......I think you should give Coach Dakich and this year's team a try. Get a GA seat for the south bleachers or a reserved seat and you'll get your money's worth. I think Coach Dakich may stay calm as the season goes on because he actually likes this team and their effort. I think he may have lost his cool at times last year due to his frustration with his team. I think those individuals that frustrated him the most have run out of eligibility or quit.

That was harsh. I don't think Dr. Bucko is detracting at all from the spirit of the games. I find his point quite valid actually. Last year the signage was not all that good, and actually there was one part of the east side bleachers that was general admission while the rest was student section. But the STUDENTS seemed to ignore that sign. Now I am a student and I love seeing an active student section, but there are many times we go over the line. AA is not the most fan friendly setting at times. For instance, do you realize that when the student section is standing those chair seats, which people pay a lot of money for, are totally blocked from seeing the court and game? We haven't sold those seats in at least three seasons because of that. Talk about taking money away from the program. We need to take a serious look at AA and soon. Until we make the decision to either renovate or build I would like to see the top three rows of the east side bleachers removed. That allows students to stand the whole game and fans in the chair seats to be able to see as well. As for the profanity, we are way above that and need to wake up and realize it. What got under the skin of the players the most was the fact that we were so positive about the BG FALCONS, and not negative about the opponent. They couldn't get us to react to them and it made them mad. If we get back to that, and not just in AA but in all of our athletic facilities, then the ability of students to intimidate opponents will double! We are better fans and students than the rest of the MAC and country and need to start acting like it!

the student section is great, but with that attitude, don't complain if/when non-students don't come out for the games, ESPECIALLY if its because the students are providing a less than family friendly atmosphere.BleedOrange wrote: The games are for the students first, and this rowdy section is what makes AA the "House that Roars" and gives us one of the best home court advantages in the country. Heh? There's plenty of places outside of the East bleachers for non-rowdies (such as myself) to sit. Again, if you don't want to stand and yell, stay away from the students. It's simple. There are 5000 seats in AA, and they are all good. And to say that the students are out of control and detract from a family atmosphere is just out of line with reality. I've NEVER seen a game at AA that I wouldn't have taken by kids to. If Pleasantville is what someone is looking for, there is no college gym in the entire land that can offer it.
