This is the reason the song was removed from the play list.

"Rock and Roll pt 2" (that's the actual name of the song) was written by a the noted pedophile Gary Glitter. I tend to think that there's a lot of great songs the band could play that aren't written by a guy who rapes children.

And I don't think the song got banned because of the "You Suck!" part. I believe it was because of the "We're gonna kick the $h!t outta you!" part

I too tend to point out that "The Hey Song" as many call it is in fact "Rock and Roll Pt 2" by Gary Glitter, and yes, he is a pedophile. However, I also have to say that in my opinion, simply because the man who wrote the song wasn't a decent guy doesn't make the song itself bad. It's not as though the song is about raping children.

Yup. The last time I ever heard it at a BG game was in January of 2006, Bowling Green taking on Michigan in hockey. BG was up 3-2 and they scored a goal in the 3rd period, and they blasted the Hey song, and everybody in the student section chanted "you suck", then "we're gonna beat the sh*t outta you, and you, and you, and you and you and you!" following the three heys back to the main verse. Then we scored another goal to go up 5-2, and everybody did it again, even though they tried to cut the music out early.

Never heard from again. But man that was a great night, probably the most fun I ever had at the IA.

In the tamer versions of the song, I remember going to a Redskins game where the band just simply chanted "we're gonna be the hell outta you".

This was in the Miami Whammy days in men's basketball and they probably did.

He was arrested in Viet Nam awhile back on his way to Thailand. Odd choice, Thailand- not like they turn a blind eye to sex with kids or anything.

Nice to know he's off the streets. The song is way overrated, too.

I dunno...that sex with kids thing is generally a deal breaker for me. For example, I used to enjoy Ginsburg's poetry...until he came out in support of NAMBLA. I can't compartmentalize that issue...I think I feel more strongly about it since becoming a parent.

Yeah... the "Hey" song is a touchy subject for some. I'm surprised Cincy didn't post in here yet.

Oh well. As has been said by others, there are much better songs to play at a sporting event.

I hate you right now, almost as much as I hate that song but not quite.

As far as Rock and Roll Part II is concerned, it's a song. If we retroactively demonized everything a person does because they turn out to be a douche then we would not have much in the way of art, literature, or music.

That song is actually a staple here at Valparaiso where my wife works. They have removed the phrase "you suck" and replaced it with "VU". They have also removed "we're gonna kick the @#$% out of you, and you, and you, and you" with " V A L P A R A I S O Let's Go Valpo, Let's Go Valpo" in rhythm that fits the music. It's a great example of taking a stock song and putting a unique spin on it. It sounds pretty good with 5000 people participating in unison.
