Or do we have to put up with Venerable Anderson Arena for the rest of its life?

It was not Mr. Venerable- Venerable was his first name and interestingly enough, Venerable was not even really an Anderson. He was a faithful servant to HArold Anderson's parents for over fifty years and became so associated with the family that people called him Anderson. His real name was Venrable Guiterrez. When Anderson Arena was built Harold didn't really want to be associated with it as he believed it should have been made much larger and a different color scheme should have been in place but he didn't want to be rude so he allowed the Anderson portion but insisted that the official name be "Venerable Anderson Arena" in honor of Mr. Guiterrez.

A little known sidebar here: Venerable Guiterrez is often credited with developing the Diamond and one zone press, which he drew on a cocktail napkin one night when the Anderson's were hosting a party attended by a mediocre coach named John Wooden. Wooden immediately saw the possibilities and tweaked it so succesfully that he went on to become, well, JOHN WOODEN.

Venerable Guiterrez passed in February of 1977. His final words were "Awwck. Awck. Guhhhhhhhh..."

And now you know, the REST of the story.

Maybe this is some sort of reference to the player named Clinton "Venerable" on the Falcon squads of the late 80s, early 90s.... :?

Well, if Venable had stuck around as long as, say, Wasean Tate, and picked up a little something from one of the coeds there he might have been known as Venerable Clinton "Venereal" Venable.

Legend has it, if you sit on one of the men's toilet seats at the Venerable Anderson Arena where Clint Venable once played, you will get a Venereal Disease of unknown origin. I have this from a venafiable source.
