Mid-Major All Decade Team

Congratulations Keith!

P.S.: Antonio Gates and Trevor Huffman were the only other MAC players honored.

4 of the players on that list (also Blizzard from UNC-Wilmington) played at Anderson Arena in 2001-02. God that was a fun season, shame that we couldn't get into the dance.

Yep, BG deserved to get in the dance that year. BG also deserved a first round home match up in the NIT with a 24 win season. Went to Hinkle to watch the NIT game against Butler. Len Matella was on fire from the field, if Keith doesn't foul out, who knows.

I think our team was definitely worth an at large bid, and they could have won a game or two in the big dance that year. They DEFINITELY deserved a home game in the NIT, they were one of the bubble teams and got screwed having to play @ Butler.

Still, I don't get quite as upset about it as other fans do. My line of thinking was that we were good enough to make the tournament, but we screwed ourselves with 2 absolutely AWFUL road losses (@Akron & @Toledo). You cannot lose 2 games like that against that level of competition and expect an at large bid from the MAC. I think the selection committee would have overlooked the 3x losses to KSU, but not with those two bad losses on the resume. It sucks that it comes down to a couple games like that, but that's life in the MAC. Still, there is no doubt that team could have done some damage in the NCAAs...a shame that they didn't make it.

Fixed it for you. Nevertheless, a road loss to that God-awful Rocket squad that barely eked out an 11-7 MAC record for second in the West had to hurt.

You're pretty much right...you just can't expect an at large bid from the MAC.

As to the quality of that UT squad, maybe I've misremembered, but didn't they have a very poor RPI? I thought that was a loss that really hurt our RPI rating as that season came to a close, but perhaps I'm wrong.

Either way, the bottom line is that if you want to make the tourney, you have to win the MAC tourney.

I don't think in terms of RPI but you're right- we didn't fare well outside of the MAC and played some weak teams and lost. No good (RPI good) wins. One of our weaker schedules during the 2000s. But BG probably got jerked around a couple times since the 90s when they were clearly better than some more prominent league at-larges.

Well maybe my brain cells work a touch better than I recall then :)

Either way this is life in the MAC...win the tourney if you want a bid...

Not to threadjack...kudos to all the MAC player that were honored on this list! I was pretty lucky that Keith's 4 years here mirrored my own. It was fun going to Anderson every game knowing you were going to be watching one of the best players in the country.
