Juuuuuuuuust wonderful......... ](*,)

I think he has so much potential. I can only hope he sorts this out, gets himself in order, and can come back for us down the road. I was really excited to see what both McElroy & Calhoun were going to bring to the table this year (I believe they both are the keys to our future) and both have now been derailed. I hope they both can get things taken care of.

33,
If these two guys are the "keys to our future", I'm not sure I want to see the future... it goes without saying that, when you take "borderline" kids, either academically, or socially... there's a strong possiblity that you're gonna get burned. I don't know either of the young men in question...but I'm tired of hearing the usual excuses for these kids...'"they're still young, made a mistake etc"... I know I'm a "senior citizen" on this board, but I'll still take a kid who HAS the grades and a clean behavior record any day.

Does the athletic department require any sort of educational programs or classes at all regarding drug use and abuse for the student-athletes?

If not, I think it's time for Christopher to institute something. This is just getting ridiculous.

Yes, there are already programs in place.

I'm talking about mandatory programs that are actually given before there is an incident or a problem. If so, then I think they need to look in a different direction as they don't appear to be working very well.

There is absolutely no way to stop college kids from experimenting with drugs & alcohol. No program is going to stop it. No higher recruiting standards are going to stop it. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE.

Everybody reacts differently to being away from home for the first time. Some continue on the straight and narrow, others will experiment. There isn't a good way to predict who will do what until after they get into the environment. Drug programs or classes aren't going to be effective either. You think the kids don't already know that they're illegal? I'm positive they're already signing something with their scholarship laying it out that they can lose it for such activity. These kids are well aware of the consequences of these actions before they choose to imbibe.

All you can do is have a standard punishment set up to deal with these transgressions and apply it equally to all players. You can then hope that the disciplinary lessons will sink in with teammates, etc.

I'm sorry, but it's just not possible to prevent this stuff completely. There isn't a team in the country that doesn't deal with these very same issues every year. It goes with the territory when you're talking about 18-22 year old kids.

Oooh, I just love this stuff!!!!!

We knowingly recruit "borderline" kids, whatever the hell that is. THEN, we put them through institutionally administered training program to prevent these types of incidents.

Yes!!!! THAT. IS. THE. ANSWER!

Agree completely. You're going to get them to not experiment based on a class....even a MANDATORY class? Not gonna happen.

McElroy is a good kid who made a mistake. He will learn from this mistake and grow as a person.

I have faith that he will. I think he has the potential to be an All-MAC caliber player in a couple years. We shall see...

Never- it was going on when I was in school and you'll be asking that question of your grandchildren.
