Informative read from Dave Hackenberg's column today. A lot of it has already been discussed here but it was interesting getting some perspective from some MAC coaches, particularly Charlie Coles.

It would have been nice to see an improvement in football as a reward for sacrificing basketball. After the emphasis to keep football in 1A, our basketball has fallen way off and our football has fallen way off as well.
We're still a 1A league, but we're clearly the ass end of 1A. In reality the region, let alone the nation, doesn't care if we're 1A or 1AA or DII or DIII. We've spent just enough to suck in football while sucking our surging basketball programs dry.
Our football presence in 1A is meaningless. What the hell was the point? The extra money spent to prop up football in 1A where it doesn't belong was a questionable investment.

Looking at the basketball attendance cited in the articles along with the attendance for football I wonder if both MAC basketball and football can maintain Division I status for long. It takes money to be DI and that money is not sitting in MAC arenas and stadiums right now.

Some of us don't follow BGSU football in 1A for the vain hope of national titles, BCS bowls, etc. It is about playing the teams we've known, winning our conference, and seeing a brand of football that is still better than 1AA.
Maybe they should drop football and basketball entirely, and focus on Hockey.

I'm sorry, my new Union says I'm to be referred to as Wise-ass. Get it straight!
