IMO, this is a DUMB thing for Orr to do... a 3 game suspension for POT? I'm sorry, but this should've ended this kid's season...make a stand, set rules (hope one of them wasn't a "3 game suspension for Pot possession")

I am not sure what the full circumstances were with the possession. Yes it was stupid. Maybe he peed clean.

I have faith in the Coach that he knows what he is doing.

I think we have to trust Coach Orr here as none of us know all the details.

If he wasn't the only person in the vehicle there might be other mitigating factors involved that caused him to be charged. Although either way, he was in a position he should not have been in.

Didnt A Turner get one game for pot? Thats about 1/12th the season, similar to what McElroy got. I really have no problem with this. But I do understand the fear that it sends a bad precedent

I would think the athletic department has standard penalties for such things, but who knows? Most high schools do.

Coach Orr's job is to develop these young men into men just as he would raise his own son. I would hope that Coach is firm but wouldn't throw each kid who screws up under the bus.

I would imagine the 3 games was only part of the punishment and if things don't turn around then the strings will be cut. A good example was how Coach Miller handled a DUI by a player last year. Suspension and then when things didn't seem to be working out her scholarship was pulled. Gotta play the middle on discipline somewhere between the hardnose former Mens BB coach and the free-for-all former FB coach. One couldn't keep players because of overwhelming discipline and the other was unable to keep scholarships due to poor academics due in part to legal issues.

Coach Orr will do it his way until he's no longer the coach. From my perspective the team and Coach Orr represent BGSU well with the occassional unfortunate incident that occurs when dealing with young men. It's tough job IMO.

The pot must not have been that potent to warrant a year ending suspension. Now, if it were Pineapple Express, it may be a different story.

If I were a betting man, I would say not being able to play in a few games is just the tip of the ice burg of McElroy's punishment for his mistake. I would imagine there is much more he needs to do to work out of Orr's doghouse.

I have news for ya, chuckles. POT is EVERYWHERE. It's particularly frequent among doctors - one of your doctors probably does it. It's pervasive on campuses. Some of my best friend in college did pot every day. Now, they hold PhDs and law degrees and are hugely successful. I've known all sorts of people, including jocks and academics and people you might not guess, that use it frequently. Financial advisors, stay at home moms, business owners, actuaries, cops, psychologists, accountants.

Pounding a young kid like McElroy over something so common and benign is utterly pointless.

McElroy's development as a person is what matters here, not enforcing rules for the sake of enforcing rules. I too trust Orr's judgment on this.

I'd heard, obviously unconfirmed, that he tested negative for marijuana at the time. If that's the case, the 3 games make sense.

BO,
First of all, my name isn't "Chuckles"! Secondly, if you want to sing the praises of Pot, go right ahead...as I prefaced this I said IN MY OPINION...last I checked I'm allowed to have an opinion without you lecturing me on how many people use this junk (including you I assume).

I'm glad to hear he's back. I really believe he has a very bright future at BG if he gets himself on track and stays there.
