Re: Retiring numbers
Since Big Nate's number already hangs from the rafters - Daniels' 33. Period.

Period? What about Komives?
Re: Retiring numbers
Shane had a couple good years shooting the three, but I don't know if it's worthy of retiring a number.factman wrote:Period? What about Komives?

Re: Retiring numbers
A guy who played perhaps before most of the guys on this board were BORN definitely deserves recognition...check out Jim Darrow...held school scoring records BEFORE the 3 point line went into effect...had FIFTY TWO points in a game TWICE in the same season...could literally shoot the lights out...all this at about 5'10" and "chubby"...

Re: Retiring numbers
Whoa... I'm not saying there aren't some great players in the mix, including those before I was born. Hall of Fame palyers even - and Komives is on the short list (He's a BGSU Hall of Famer, right? If he isn't he should be). But retire his number? Meh...factman wrote:Period? What about Komives?
To me Thurmond and Daniels are in a class by themselves. That's just my opinion, and many have called me a... well... you get the idea.

Go back and look at what Butch Komives did while a Falcon. Remember some of the rules that were in effect when he played - Freshmen did not play; no three-point line.
What Komives did was REMARKABLE!

Re: Retiring numbers
Gotta chime in here.
I "matured" in BG during Daniels years as his college career mirrored my high school time at BGHS so I saw all of his home games and many of his road games. So I certainly appreciate and know AD's contributions to BG hoops history, but Butch is in a class above AD.
In an era before the 3-point field goal, Komives helped the Falcons to national prominence, and led the NCAA in scoring. Nobody else from BG (or the MAC) has ever done that. Komives deserves his number retired.
Daniels is probably the best player in the 70sm 80s and 90s at BG but Komives average of 36.7 points per game (to lead the nation) in '63-64 is unbelievable. He is also the BG career leader in ppg avg at 25.8.
As far as I am concerned it's Thurmond...Komives. . . . . . . Daniels...Darrow....... Piatkowki. . . .Bianchi.
