Sadly, my most vivid memory of the place is the worst. The stupid OU band crashing the party, being totally obnoxious and disrespectful and then after the crushing defeat, seeing an OU player showing even less class by climbing up onto the rim and sitting on it like he was on the toilet.

It still makes me sick thinking about it all these years later.

Mark it down, I agree with Tom on this one! I remember this like it was yesterday. I sat in the second row of the south bleachers (now the above the rim club). I think that player was John Devereux or Vic Alexander sitting on the rim. I admit I shed a few tears on this day. David Greer, Colin Irish, Bill Faine and David Jenkins deserved to play in the NCAA tournament.

On a positive note my favorite game had to be the win over Michigan State and Jud Heathcoat. BG lead the entire game I think. It was so loud, you couldn't hear the person next to you unless they were yelling at you.

Totally agree on this! There was a lot to not like about that OU team. Coach Danny Nee was the biggest reason. What an A-hole. Those teams with Greer, Jenkins, Irish and Faine deserved to be in the NCAA tournament. Proably our best team in the last 30 years.

Then I drive up to East Lansing and watch us miss free throws and have Kevin Wills beat us with a turn around jumper in overtime at Jenesen Fieldhouse in the NIT. Keith "k-nice" Taylor missed the one-and-one that could have sealed the victory. Ugh!

Oh god I forgot about this one. Didn't one of our big men off the bench have a career game that day? I think his name was Lamar Jackson. He was like 6' 8" or 6 9" with one leg shorter than the other.

Yes, Lamar had a good game against Willis. Lamar was our enforcer at 6'8" and had a wide body. Faine and Abendroth were are other big men but they didn't play that big. Scott Skiloes was on that Michigan State team and he didn't do much against us. Greer got the better of him.

Weinert was the best. Remeber how he'd put his sport coat back on when he felt the game was in hand late in a game? Those coats were ugly too.

Do you remember Bill Szabo? He played some as a freshman on that team, but for some reason transferred to Defiance College the next year. He was 6'6" and athlectic and could shoot a little. Never understood what he was thinking?

Oh yes I remember him! What he was thinking was he wanted to shoot more! Coach didn't think he played very good defense and he wanted to shoot too much. Coach W. was like the coach from Hooiser's, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass then shoot or pick and roll into a layup or another pass.

I think Szabo was part of that Defiance team that almost beat BG in a real shootout. I think he was from Firelands, OH. I enjoyed those years.

Great years! Charlie Coles was coaching at Central MIchigan and had a player named Melvin "sugar" McLaughlin. Booker T. Walker was at Western Michigan...younger brother to Campy and Cazzie. Alan Rayhorn was at Northern Illinois...kind of a Kevin McHale type body and player. Toledo had Harvey Knuckles and coach Bobby Nichols. Ball State had Ray McCallum...who later coached there. Kent was the league doormat and Akron wan't even in the league.

Yes I remember those players! I was at the game when Coach Larranaga and Charlie Coles almost came to blows up at Rose Arena. This was before anyone knew how bad Charlies heart was.

Do you remember the Freddie Barnes that played basketball for Coach Weinert? He wore #42 I think?

I don't remember a Freddie Barnes that palyed for Weinert. I remember Rosie Barnes. I also remember Greg Kampe who's the coach at Oakland University now. He also was the punter on the football team.
