Sneak-Peek at the Stroh Center

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

In case you didn't see it on Facebook or Twitter... here's a quick edit of my walk-through of the Stroh Center yesterday. I've got over 30 minutes of video, so I'll get that edited down to share on the main page as a blog post before too long.

This place is going to be phenomenal!!!

Here's Howard Chen's report on the walk-through from last night's Fox36 newscast:

Grant,

Thanks for the updates....this looks like it's truly going to be a FIRST CLASS facility... my only question is: will the video board (at ONE end) of the floor, cause problems for the players? i.e. shooting, sight lines etc.

Best video I've ever seen.

It looks from the pictures from the sentinel that the seats are going to be a tan/brown or something color and not orange. I guess an entire arena with bright orange seats could be distracting.

When did the seating get reduced? Carle's article says 4,300 to 4,400 for athletic events, but previous releases said 4,700.

I've got some footage of the chairs and bleacher samples... just taking longer than I expected to get the video edited. Well, to actually sit down and start editing the video, to be honest.

It is what it is... it'll be the right size. All the previous numbers were just estimates I guess. Now that they've actually ordered seats it's a little more concrete I suppose?

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Concrete seats? That is going to be totally uncomfortable.

That would still be more comfortable than Anderson!

I thought the additional concrete was for use on the floor to acheive the consistency of Anderson's current floor.

Jim Elsasser said it will be like Anderson in that it will be loud and boisterous and the students will be right on the court and also said he was happy about that...is this the same Jim Elsasser that constantly had officials making sure the students were back farther than needed and not being too loud and boisterous???

I wondered about that as well. Let me just say first and foremost, without question, I am thrilled we are finally getting this new building. The place looks like it's going to be GREAT!!! But I am still left wondering why the seating capacity is so small. Forget only basketball games, I mean overall, for graduation, concerts, and yes, sporting events. This place is actually smaller (in capacity) than Anderson Arena (with its full seating in the upper south end). The building physically looks so much bigger than a place that would hold just over 4,000 for a sporting event. Even though I love the place, one of the (many) knocks on AA was its small capacity. It just seems so odd that we have built a brand new place that's even smaller. But, it's water under the bridge now. I'm excited to see the finished project.
GO BG!!!
