HS Basketball Fight

Post by Anonymous »

Not sure where to post this, but did anyone see the fight at the Otsego-Woodmore game on Friday between two or three Otsego players and a
fan(s) from Woodmore. It is such a shame that things like this happen. I was at the game and it was embarrassing.

I blame the fans from Woodmore. They're worse than the thugs in Detroit!

How did I know that was coming??

I really don't know what happened. The accounts I've heard was that some Woodmore fans were behind the Otsego bench verbally harassing a player on the bench who got miffed, jumped up, turned around and launched into the Woodmore people.

Of course, I went to Woodmore and live a block from the HS now, so I'll hear the Woodmore side of things. In any case, I don't think it ever really got too out-of-hand.

Alright, I was at the game but sitting on the opposite side but I talked with several people. Since the investigation is still going on I will not name names, but if you read the paper you will know what I am talking about.

A player from Otsego took a hard foul early in the game and got a concussion. (Didn't know it at the time, but found out the next day in the paper). He returned to the bench later in the game and several plans were harassing him verbally. After about 3 minutes of listening to the fans he threw what I think was a sweaty towel behind him and then a fan threw something back at the player. He went into the stands and a few fans started to hit the player again. Two Otsego players then went into the stands to break up the fight only to get hit by two other Woodmore fans. Now that is what i saw. They are reviewing tapes from Channel 11 and 24 news and I am sure they will verify something very close to what I said.

I'll bet you when Otsego comes to Woodmore the place will be packed.

OMG, you're kidding me, this made it to the wires? Damn that Ron Artest!!

I think KSlates, BGSUFan1972 and I should go to the game here in Elmore in 6 weeks!! We'll keep the peace! Hahahha. I'm pretty sure there'll be some added security for that. Channel 24 has already promised they'll have a crew there for the entirety of the game. I think I'll wear an Artest jersey and see how that goes over!

It was a scuffle. It's not the first time it's happend. If it wasn't for the Pacers/Pistons fight, I'm sure this wouldn't be getting the attention it is.

Not just the wires, we had the video!!! :D

And you're right, it wasn't all that bad. We had one much worse my senior year in HS when both student sections emptied onto the floor during a state tournament game.Though I don't think there were any charges filed.

I guess 1992 was just a "simpler time"....

I thought I saw that but I must have been dreaming. Go figure. Otsego and Woodmore get on National TV before the BG MENS bball team does.

Side note, 3 players from Otsego have been suspended from HS, and 3 players suspended 2 games according to OHSAA, that does not include suspension by the SLL or the school.

If Otsego put the player back in the game after he had been ejected, I doubt that the school will suspend him.

On the morning news this morning on TV, also on WFOB. I know who the players are they are talking about, the one had a concussion, name was Jordan Murphy. He is their best player. One of the other two are starters, one was named Donald. I cant remember the other name at the moment without looking up their roster. Either way, two will be missed for two games, but I do not think ANYONE should face criminal charges. If it wasn't for the Pacers - Pistons game no one would be talking about this.

I don't know about criminal charges but they should be supsended for more than 2 games. There is no reason that a player should leave the floor/bench and go into the stands. I don't care how bad they were getting harrassed.
