BG shot 4-for-24 in the first half?!?!

WTF?! This team just continues to make it look damn near impossible to make a basket......I mean 17% shooting for the half in our own gym?! Wow....Duquesne sure enjoyed shooting in Anderson Arena in the first half though going 15-25.

Actually in the first 15 minutes of the game we had plenty of open looks. We don't have a players on the roster who can consistently HIT those shots, unfortunately.

After that we completely gave up and put forth the most abysmal "effort" I've seen in a VERY long team. The team just flat out QUIT...a pathetic effort that they should all be absolutely embarrassed by.

The defensive "effort" was especially putrid.

Count me as another person who HATED DD's offense...that doesn't mean I can't also hate Orr's offense. It's been pretty putrid for most of his tenure as well.

Thats great to hear. Where exactly where they coming open? I think the intent is near the top of the key and I saw them try to do that a ton last time with no success. Shots will start to fall. Brown, Jaku and Thomas can all shoot to an extent. Shots will start to fall. What concerns me more is the D. I thought that would be much better at this point. We are much more athletic.

They were all jumpers, but they were open looks.

We could NOT get any open looks in the paint for most of the game. Duquesne was VERY aggressive inside, though, and rather than get open looks we did draw a ton of fouls when we got the ball inside. But we got plenty of open looks for jumpers early on. Brown, Jakubowski, Calhoun, McElroy, and Thomas all had looks early on in the game that they should be able to knock down and just didn't.

What really upset me was that even with the shooting woes they were getting to the line enough that they were still well in the game through 15 minute or so. But they just hung their heads and gave up towards the end of the half. When things weren't going their way, they just flat out quit. The effort for the rest of the game was just abysmal.

I will say the ONE stretch of the game where we played competent defense we were back in our 2-3 zone. I believe the lineup at that time was Crawford, Kraus, Thomas, Sealey, and Calhoun. One problem that we definitely have is that Jakubowski & Brown are probably our 2 best guards shooting the ball, but neither of them can guard ANYBODY on the perimeter. When they were in the game it was gimme layup time for their guys.

They could score at will on our guards. I think JimmyZ said it looked like the NBA All-Star Weekend skills competition when they had a possession.

Of all the things posted on AZZ since last night, the thing that is most troubling is the word "quit". We are only four games in and the team is already quiting during a game?? Somethin' ain't right....

I don't get how all these guys have been competing at a high level their whole careers pre-college and now they can't turn it up a notch when the other team is taking it to them? That doesn't make sense. Has playing the game they love become that much of a chore?

If you look at Orr's post-game video last night, HE looks like HE quit. I assume in reality he hasn't quit and the low key approach is his coaching style, but his body language and tone are giving the WRONG message if you want guys to go out and compete at a high level.

After a 36 point beat down in your own arena, there's not much to do but grab a paper sack or two, one for your head and one to puke in. That being said, I hate to second guess the coach, but why isn't Calhoun in for 30-40 minutes or until he drops or fouls out? I know it's not a democracy, but why didn't everyone get some playing time? This game was lost at halftime. It seems odd, they shot the eyes out of the basket from everywhere, and we go to the free throw line where we shoot 11-16 in the first half. At one point, Crawford had 2 field goals and the rest of the team had free throws.

I think the Michigan game showed what a player Calhoun is. Yeah, probably poor shot selection, but when he's making them, it's not a bad thing. Dee has not impressed this year yet, Jaku is steady, but not great, and I like Crawford. Sealy shows promise and Cam is raw. With Scott, you get a streaky player. Yesterday was not his night either. That's the offense, I didn't see any defense.
