I am not going to critique any of the players but I seriously think we have only 5 or 6 Div 1 players.

I think they look ok. WKU is very good. Granted they have WKU has 26 turnovers, but progress is being shown by the Falcons.

Dee Brown has to finish that bunny.

Western Kentucky is not "very good". This team has no identity at all.

Gmartin - thanks for the heads up. I would never have checked channel 617. WKU let BG hang around and BG did not capitalize.

Some of those commercials shown during the broadcast may reinforce the stereotype of people from Kentucky.

Pretty interesting game. Interesting to hear who was in when we did our run at the end. I tried to keep track but was unable to. I think that when we were most disruptive on D and effective on offense it was Craw-Brown-Thomas-Mc and Black. Kraus was in a little, seemed to be disruptive on D but out of control on Offense even though he was at least aggressive.

Oglesby put up 3 rebounds and a basket in 6 minutes. Any thoughts about how the post will shape up for people who have seen more games. Mc and Black seem to be the most physically gifted but when Oglesby, Sealy and even Dabney come in they go on statistical runs. Without seeing the game I have no idea if its just happenstance or if they have potential for more minutes.

Glad to see they did not quit. Glad to see the 1-2-1-1 was disruptive. Hope to see more shots fall.

The first 25-30 minutes of the game we were unwatchable. Just brutally BAD. The final 10-12 minutes or so we played a lot better, but we still cannot make shots even when we get exactly what we want. What continues to be frustrating is that guys like Thomas, Brown, and Jakubowski miss their open looks as much as the new guys. That cannot happen.

Overall our guard play is abysmal. Crawford is the only guard on the team that looks like he has D1 skills, and he's so small that he can't do anything inside of 10 feet. Jakubowski just looks lost this year... Brown & Jaku are both among the worst defensive players you'll ever see. Tonight both Kraus & Brown had times where they commanded the ball and tried to do it all on their own...looking absolutely terrible doing it. Most notably was the abortion of a possession Brown put up when we were down 54-52 or whatever it was.

In the front court I didn't see anything really stand out from Oglesby or Dabney tonight. McElroy did a good job getting some boards, but he's just not strong enough to finish around the basket. Black didn't have a real great game tonight...looked very slow against WKU's athleticism. Calhoun was blah...made a nice defensive play or two, but all of his "offense" was forced, and I don't think he even scored? I don't recall Sealey even getting in the game tonight.

All in all this is still a really bad team. We've got some talent, and some athleticism in the front court, but we seemed to have no direction at all offensively for the entire first half and start of the 2nd. Then when we did start to get some good looks in the 2nd half we don't have guys that can consistently finish. We just need some guys to start hitting some shots...and certain players need to figure out if they want to be part of a team or not. If those things start to happen, there is some talent on this squad.

It'd be nice to see us put an actual D1 guard on the floor too...

Hammb - Coach Orr made the comment on Monday night that he wanted us to pass the ball one ore time before we took the shot.

Tonight, to me, it felt like we were looking to make that extra pass instead of taking the shot (in the first half). I thought we were passing, passing, passing.

Did you get that feeling?

I was at the game tonight and a couple of my thoughts:
1. The game would've been a blowout had our press not confused them late in the game. Our comeback was a combo of good defense, making some shots, and WKU's terrible decision making.
2. That isn't a real good WKU team...they are a .500 team in the Sunbelt.
3. Our offense has no go to guy. We have a lot of role players and almost no above average players. The offense needs someone to lead the way.
4. I'm not as big a fan of Crawford as others. He's so small and isn't a real good create and distribute guy. He did make some good shots down the stretch and picked up a few steals.
5. Crowd was bad. Not that I was expecting much.
6. Even if we improve, we are no more than 5 win team in the conference. I really don't think its anything coaching or scheme. There just isn't enough talent offensively to score consistently.

I pretty much agree with all the points above. I assumed that with the big guys moving on, this team would run the floor and use the more athletic wing players to an advantage. Instead, we play slow and have nobody that can score at the basket in the half court. Plus we shoot 25% from three. The toughest part for me to watch, is the lack of leadership and fire on the court. It concerned me from the first year Orr was here. In year two, Nate Miller became the best player in the conference over the final 15 games of the season. He was also the emotional leader. He left and assistant coach Jackson left for Cincinnati. Since then I have seen very little fire on the court, near the bench, or in any aspect of the program. I am very realistic that MAC basketball has fallen hard and fast from where it was 5 to 10 years ago. However, going to watch BG basketball live was never this tough. This program needs to be evaluated hard not just from a record standpoint, but also from a fan interest level. In twenty five years, I've never seen less interest in this program.

I don't know...in the first half I couldn't tell what the hell we were trying to do offensively. It seemed like most possessions we'd still be dribbling near midcourt with our back to the basket and down to 15-20 seconds on the shot clock before we even started doing anything. Then we'd just dribble around the perimeter, and pass it off to another guy on the perimeter. We just looked LOST that half, IMO.

The 2nd half we did a much better job creating offense, but we still don't have anybody that can actually finish.

Crawford is a mixed bag to me. On the one hand he's the only player on the team who seems to be able to create off the dribble. The problem is his size then makes that a moot point because he cannot finish inside, nor does he do a good job finding passing lanes to drive/kick.

Defensively, he's great at picking pockets and he is good for a couple fast break buckets a game, it seems, based off his defensive tenacity. But, again, his size is a major issue as pretty much anybody he's guarding can shoot over him with ease.

I like Crawford. I don't like the fact that I think he might be our best guard, and certainly seems to be our best PG. He's a good player, but he's not a guy that would be playing that many minutes on a good team. The guard play on this team is overall REALLY bad. Which is pretty much the same story we've been preaching since Ron Lewis left.
