Nice Article on Jordon Crawford:

If we are having trouble getting going in the early part of games, we may see Crawford starting soon. I have a hunch we may see better energy out of Calhoun and Black early with Crawford on the floor. You could have Jaku sub in for either Crawford and/or Brown IMO to give them a break

Re: Jordon Crawford
I think Crawford made it clear that this is his team now. He is the point. To have a 3-year starter as a back-up is certainly a luxury (and I hope Joe gets PT in other areas as well).
His penetration creates the motion, open 3's and sensational dunks. The fact that he demonstrated he is a total offensive threat by finishing at the basket, pulling up for the mid-range jumper, knocking down a 3 and getting assists off the penetration will allow everyone else open looks. And then his defense, what a pest - glad he wears orange and brown. This group's level of success will be dictated by Crawford's strong PG play - with the skill set of this team I think this will be a fun group to watch as they continue to develop.
Can't wait to see this group in 12 days against Eastern.

Re: Jordon Crawford
Crawford has played better and better as this year goes on. He's by FAR the quickest player on the court pretty much every night. He's the only guard that has shown any ability to actually create plays for himself and teammates. Defensively he's a liability if they decide to just try and shoot over him, but until that time his hands are super quick and he creates a lot of turnovers.
The areas that Crawford still gets into trouble are 1) from time to time he actually plays TOO quick...he'll have streaks of pushing things a bit too much and turning it over. Yesterday we didn't see that, hopefully he's improving in that area. 2) His size is still a detriment when he penetrates too far. Yesterday he did a good job finding passing lanes, but if he's forced to finish himself around the bucket a lot of the times it has just resulted in easy blocks.
Yesterday Jordon played one helluva game, I hope he continues to build upon that. He's an exciting player to watch, that's for sure.

Re: Jordon Crawford
I still prefer Crawford off the bench. Why? Well as a former coach for a few years but mainly from experience, players like Crawford strive better coming off the bench because during the first 5 min he can see how the other team is doing and get a better feel for the game. I would still start JoJak even though I still have expressed my frustration about his play. Crawford sitting and watching and then bringing the energy would be better than him starting, using up a good portion of his energy while he develops the flow. By the time he understands how the offense and defense is being played he will be tired. We just need Brown and JoJak to step up their play.

Admittedly, I haven't had the chance to see the men's team in action yet...(saw the women lose to KSU on Sat.), but I'd agree with your evaluation, based on what I saw last year... guys like Crawford can truly "pick up" a team with instant energy more as a 6th man, than starting.... a guy named Havlicek had somewhat of a reputation for doing that a "few" years ago...of course, he wasn't 5'5" either.gmartin wrote:I still prefer Crawford off the bench.
