Chauncey Orr scored 19 points Friday night and became Bowling Green's all-time leading scorer in a Northern Lakes League boys basketball victory over Rossford. Orr has 1,258 points, topping the previous record of 1,256 set by Josh Almanson in 2000.

Not to sound critical at all and well deserved props to Chauncey but 1250 points seems very low. You would think that someone during their hs playing career would have had a higher total. If you were to start as a freshman, with 25 games per year, not including tournaments, that is an average of only 12 pts per game in your career. Must not been too many players at BGHS playing as a freshman.

... And he is only 2000 points behind the all-time Ohio record of 3208 set by Jon Diebler.

He's only 2000 shots behind Jon Dieber as well! Dieber could and would shot 30 times a night.

It's a good example of the difference between high school and college ball. Remember, there's no shot clock in prep and games tend to be lower scoring. Consider that 2,000 career points is an impressive milestone for a college player, yet NBA players score 2,000 points a season. Lower shot clock and longer season, but still.

Sounds like a very mature young man! Just the kind of leader you want on your team!!

High School teams only play 20 games in Ohio, playing 25 a year would mean your losing in the regionals. (2 sectional games, 2 district games, 1 regional game) That average of 12 might be a little higher toward 15 to 18 a game.

OSUFalc, you got that right. Diebler shot 30 times a game in the first half- or so it seemed. Great shooter- who shot a ton. A ton.

C Orr- team first. Fine young man on a very good HS team this year with balance and many options inside and out. Orr gets his inside the team framework.

And it sure would be nice to see the Bobcats play 25 games this year. Regular season plus five- that would be wonderful. Or more.

The only way to get to "25 games per year" in HS, would be to make a LONG run into the state tourn. each year. HS teams are limited to 20 regular season games, then to the tournament. It'd be a heck of a team that a kid would be on to get 25 games per year for four years of HS.

Chauncey Orr did not start as a freshman at BGHS. I believe he suffered an injury pre-season and didn't fully work his way into the rotation until the latter portion of the season.

As for the "low" PPG totals, he is also leading the team in assists and wouldn't be surprised if he has each of the previous two seasons as well. BGHS endorses a "team-oriented" offensive strategy where Chauncey doesn't need to take an overwhelmingly large percentage of his team's shots for them to be successful.

He can still put up 30 in a competitive game if the situation calls for it, though.

BGHS has never made any signifigant run in the state tournament for as long as I can remember. Winning even 2 games is an extreme rarity. So with that, you don't exactly have Jon Deibler's coming through the program each year...but who does. That kid was a once in a lifetime freak...or twice if you count Bron Bron.
