The MAC offices are ###### Up

I am sorry but the MAC office is messed up!!!!! I am out in DeKalb for the game this evening and was out here last night as well. But can someone give me a explanation that makes sense because I cannot think of one.
On Sunday the National Weather Service predicted Chicago area could get up to 2 feet of snow and they were pretty accurate. Downtown Chicago, in between all the high rise building got 19.1 inches of snow. Western suburbs where additional lake effect from an easterly wind got 2 feet of snow, with local news stations saying some areas got 27 to 29 inches. That does not include the 6 feet drifts. Chicago went under a BLIZZARD warning on Sunday night. So can someone please explain to me why the MAC office allowed BG student athletes to drive 330 miles heading directly into the heart of a blizzard. Not sure what time the teams left and if the weather slowed them down but BG to NIU is already a 5 to 6 hour bus ride depending on traffic.
Numerous shopping mall roofs collapsed today. Wrigley Field got damaged. Wind gusts of 77 mph last night. Oh and 136,000 customers just in the Chicago region without power.
So why did the MAC not postpone the men's and women's games when it POSTPONED games at Buffalo and in Kalamazoo where they didn't get hit nearly as hard. I am already out here and the team is here but I don't understand why the MAC allowed BG to drive 6 hours into a blizzard and postponed the other games. I really would like to hear what others say.

Well, first of all the men's and women's teams went over there on Monday, ahead of the storm. They arrived safely. Leaving early was the right thing to protect the safety of our athletes.
I don't think the MAC office determines these postponements. For example, Kent felt uncomfortable traveling to WMU on Tuesday, and so the game was postponed. Don't know the circumstances of the UT-Buffalo postponement.

I think it is the MAC office who determines the cancellations. Buffalo games were postponed yesterday. Kent to WMU is half the distance BG to NIU is. BG men left yesterday morning. Yes they made it safely but Chicago was already under a blizzard warning before they left. I just find it odd they made BG make the trip into what was forecasted the worst part of the storm. Ok time to head over to the arena and watch another BG victory

I would find it unlikely that the league office postpones the games, more or less it is mutually agreed upon by the two schools' athletic departments.

The MAC did not MAKE us head into the storm to play these games. The teams reviewed the weather reports and made the decisions that they wanted to play them so they left early.
If you don't play them now, you have to make them up at some point. When? Play three games in seven days? Maybe four in eight days?
Truth is, the decision to play these games was made without much thought about the fans attending the games. The same thing happened a few years ago here. Akron came over on a Saturday and we had one huge storm on Saturday. We played on Sunday because Akron was here. There weren't many fans in the stands at that one.
Quit complaining (about everything) and enjoy the fact that you are there and got a chance to see both teams play.

Here's a tweet from BGSU on the departure on Monday.

We left tonight instead of tomorrow at noon. Lots of extra clothes! RT @seanshapiro: travel plans for men's team heading to NIU changing?

And here's the statement by WMU:
"It was determined by both athletic departments that travel from Kent, Ohio, to Kalamazoo, Mich., could possibly be dangerous and that rescheduling the event was in the best interest of our student-athletes and both programs. Both institutions agreed upon Feb. 21, 2011 as the date to make up this Wednesday's game."

FWIW, Ohio made the trip from Athens to Mt. Pleasant.

I wasn't complaining per say. I just found it odd that DeKalb clearly had the worst of the weather and BG made it and had the farthest to travel and worst of the weather. I am glad it was played because the other 4 schools now have to squeeze an extra game into a week or have a short turn-a-round. Maybe the schools who thought it was too unsafe should follow BG's lead next time.

On the other hands, Buffalo fans are mad they postponed their game.

Well I am still out in Geneva, IL but listening to the pregame of the UB - UT game on the internet. Mark Beir (sp) mentioned that Toledo got into Buffalo shortly before 5:00pm on Tuesday, and was informed the game was postponed by the MAC until today at 2:00pm. He said neither the UT and Buffalo coaching staff was happy and had to make the best of the situation. He then went on later saying Buffalo got very little snow and then said that DeKalb got hammered and couldn't understand why they played last night.
Looks like no one really knows who makes the final decision. From what I ready from Kent and WMU it appeared to be a mutual decision. In UB - UT both coaches were upset about the postponement and playing today so it doesn't look like either of them made that decision. Maybe I will submit my question to ask the AD.

What we did find out is that Toledo can be beaten by over 20 pts at any time of the day on any day of the week.

If it inconvenienced Toledo in the slightest it was worth it.
