11 years ago tonight...

Post by TG1996 »

Anthony Stacey broke the BG scoring record in a win over Kent State at Anderson Arena. One of my personal favorite nights at the ol' barn. (And a much happier memory than the most recent one at hand...)

Stacey is my all time favorite too. I have been a BG bball nut since the early 70's. I can attest to the likes of Faine, Newburn, Greer, Jenkins, Irish, Taylor, Daniels, and McLeod. Stacey is my number 1.

Keith McLeod once bounced the ball to himself and then dunked it during a game. Best play I have ever seen.

With that said Anthony Stacey was a flat out stud and is the reason I am in love with BG basketball. If I had to watch the last 8 years when I was in school I probably would be a Buckeyes fan.

+1
Anthony Stacey gave it his all ever second he was on the court. Never complained and was a class act. All around great person and wonderful athlete. I remember him most for his hustle while jumping out of bounds to save the ball which amazingly to my knowledge he had a successful record doing so.

Well, not his all :-) I remember that he was throwing up on the sidelines in a road game at Akron one year. Touch of the flu.

Yeah, Stacey's folks used to come to BG games even after Anthony graduated. A certain coach drove them away....

just spoke to AS yesterday - he is obviously coming back for the March 5th game and is attending the BiG Event that night.

He is pretty jacked to come back "home" to BG - and plans on going out that night. Will be great to see him alongside some of the ALL TIME'ers!

If you haven't done so, try to get to the BiG Event guys. Over 425+ people already committed to coming.

The best part about that McLeod "bounce-to-himself" dunk was that he did it as a Freshman in his very first appearance at Savage Hall to essentially seal the game. Even if he never would have scored another point in his career, that would have been enough for me to include him in my all time favorites.

Also I VERY vividly remember Stacey jumping into the crowd to save loose balls. During a game over winter break where the students were gone (and back when you could TELL that the students were gone) my dad and I sat in the front row, and AS went diving after a loose ball and landed directly on top of me and about crushed my pre-pubescent bone structure. As soon as he got a chance, Anthony came over, shook my hand and asked if I was allright. Top class.
LONG LIVE THE MONGOOSE!!
