WMU game at the Q

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

I'll be heading to the game as media, will be tweeting as @azzdotcom for sure and will have my camera as well. Is there anything else you all would like as far as coverage of our game tomorrow? Should I update things in here? Liveblog? What say you?

Ugh...I hope they win. Just found out I'm going to be stuck in a meeting right during the time of this game and won't even be able to follow along or listen on the radio.

Updates on here so that I could read later and "re-live" the game would be awesome though :)

Effing work getting in the way of Falcon basketball. I got news for 'em: If we win 3 more games I will NOT be here at the end of next week.

I'd sure like to know what the team morale is like right now and how their confidence is going into a rematch vs WMU. And how about reviews of the local food / beer? Haven't been to Cleveland in a while ...

As for the team they have to be flying high. They just beat 2 teams by a combined total of 30 points in Anderson. On top of that they got a decent draw by playing WMU. Yeah, we've struggled against the Broncos but I think we've got a shot against them. We just need to keep playing the way we have been...and if Calhoun stays hot this team could go on a run.

As for local food/beer you're going to an amazing food city, as far as I'm concerned.

For local beer the Great Lakes brewery is pretty top notch. Good beers, and the brewpub always has 2-3 beers on tap that are not bottled and distributed. The food there is pretty meh, but the beer is pretty good. It's especially fun checking out the pub exclusives.

Right across the road from the brewery is the West Side Market which is just an awesome farmers/seafood/meat market. Great fresh stuff there with tons of food options as well.

On St. Clair avenue is a little dive deli known as Slyman's. They're only open M-F for breakfast and lunch, but would be an option before the game on Thursday or on Friday if you're staying for awhile. The absolute BEST corned beef sandwich I've ever eaten...so good I do occasionally drive to Cleveland SOLELY for this sandwich.

Head west on Rt. 2 out of downtown to Lakewood and hit up Melt Bar & Grilled. FANTASTIC beer and cocktail list...lots of microbrews, both local and national. I don't think they ever put the likes of Bud or Miller on one of their taps. They've been on both Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and Man-vs-Food. If you haven't seen it their food thing is gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches...tons of combos, and of course you can build your own. The food is fantastic...including hand cut fries. If you like good beer and unique eats, this place is a definite destination. Just be prepared to wait for a couple hours if you go during peak times.

Right across from the Q there is a bar called the Winking Lizard. They will have over 100 bottled beers and a pretty good tap selection as well. Food here is pretty similar to like a BWW or Jed's...decent bar food, but not great. The beer selection is pretty awesome though, and the location is perfect for the MAC tourney (of course for this reason they're also packed during the tourney).

Other places that I've heard nothing but rave reviews of that I really want to check out are Lucky's cafe (everything there is made from scratch, supposed to be fantastic), and all of Iron Chef Michael Symon's restaurants (Lola, Lolita, Burger Bar). I believe Symon's Burger Bar has won awards for the best burger in the country...it's a bit of a haul from downtown though in the East suburbs (which is why I haven't been there).

Seriously, nobody talks about Cleveland, but there are TONS of great food options there, from fine dining to bar food. Not many cities can claim an Iron Chef...and at least one restaurant that he opened BEFORE becoming a celebrity chef, especially.

That place is usually packed to the rim, but if you feel like killing an evening by waiting for food I'd recommend it.

Oh yeah...as mentioned in my above post, their food is amazing and their beer selection is top notch as well.

Last time I was there it was about 11:15 on a Friday night (their kitchen closes at midnight), and we got a seat right away. If you go during a peak mealtime though you can definitely count on 2 hours or more to get a table. Personally, I think it's worth it because it's a pretty cool place to hang out and drink some awesome beers so waiting for 2 hours to get a table doesn't even feel that bad.

For my birthday last month I ate at Brasa in the warehouse district. It's $35/person but if you're a fan of amazing cuts of meat it's worth the visit. It's a Brazilian style steakhouse.

I'm actually going as a business trip and meeting with Optiem on 6th St. at 9:30 AM, then to the Q after that... then... depending on how much time is left in the day, either BSpot or home. Thanks for all the great CLE suggestions though!

Overrated in my opinion. Five Guys has a better burger IMO.

Optiem does a ton of work for me, grant. Maybe we can talk at the Q?
