Six MAC schools in all made post season tournaments: Akron (NCAA), Kent State (NIT), Ohio (CIT), Buffalo (CIT), Miami (CBI) and also WMU (CIT) from the MAC West.

NCAA
Akron vs Notre Dame

NIT
Kent State @ St. Mary's

CIT
Ohio @ Marshall
Buffalo @ Quinnipiac
Tennessee Tech @ Western Michigan

CBI
Miami at Rhode Island

Interesting. St Mary's has to be one of the top seeds, I haven't seen the brackets making Kent one of the lower seeds. With Kent being a low seed and Akron receiving a #15 seed it really shows the quality of the MAC. Heck, with the exception of the MAC Conference (sorry I just had to be redundant as everyone else is) Championship game this team is dreadful to watch. We are nowhere near the Horizon league level of play. Even the Summitt league games are more exciting to watch. And compared to the Big East or other Big 6 our games look like 8th grade games. Our whole conference needs to raise the bar.

I updated this thread because Miami was added to the CBI, so that makes six MAC Teams in all now, the entire MAC East (except for BG) and WMU.

I read that Ball State declined invitations to the CBI and/or CIT, since those are pay-to-play tournaments.

Can't we get a tournament going at the Rec Center? Who's got next? Need one? Can a run with you?

I don't pay much attention to the CIT or CBI. But I think they aren't bad for younger teams whose players want to keep playing, or if the team just wants to keep playing together and not have the season end. While these tournaments obviously don't hold nearly the same stock as the NCAA or NIT, teams that get wins in them can say they won postseason contests. It sure beats sitting at home like we are.

Yeah, I saw a few schools last night who also did the same thing like Virginia and Maryland after they were passed by for the NIT. Occasionally you see teams do the same passing on the NIT when not selected for the NCAA.

Well, the MAC is 1-0 in the postseason as Buffalo beat Quinnipiac 75-68 in the CIT.

Cool...I had Buffalo advancing on my CTI bracket. :D

How much did these schools pay to play (other than Akron and Kent)?

I don't like the idea of paying to extend our season.

Only home teams play, so they're not paying anything. I know the CIT and probably the CBI covers travel expenses for the visiting team.

It's CIT, not CTI, get it straight. ;)

The only real positive for those tournaments is that it allows extra practice and game time for younger teams. We are a team that could probably use it, but we aren't good enough...
Can't wait for the next "Ask the AD" segment, to hear what a great year the basketball and hockey teams had because they advanced to the second round of their tournaments....lol

For Hockey - YES. Especially with a first year coach and all this squad has gone through the last several years.

For Basketball - well, I can understand your frustration, my frustration, Grant's frustration, etc.
