What did DD say?

Post by pardonfan »

Coach D walked across the court to the student section last night during the under 4 timeout I believe. Why did he do that and what did he say?

He came over and thanked the students and those of us in the student section for coming out to the game!

I think he was telling the Sideline Squad that he had free pizza after the game for them and to thank the entire student section for coming to the game. My reasoning? The Sideline Squad was eating pizza on the court after the game. Coach D. has given pizza to them in the past. Oh, and "How do the new banners look?"

He also gestured to some of my friends and I last night who know him after a horrid call by a ref. The impression we got was that he had given up on these refs getting stuff right quite early in the game and he thought they were worthless...but I'm just guessing :D

Speaking of the Sideline Squad, they were total jerks last night, from the looks of it. As always there was a large group of people that arrived at the game early enough to get those primo front row seats. Then, about 6:50, in comes all the guys on the "sideline squad" (at least they had SS T-shirts), and promptly stand up in the front row immediately in front of everyone that was there an hour earlier.

Much like the Kegs 'n' Eggs guys of a couple years ago. They have a group of Tee Shirts and they think they're entitled to the front row seats? The Event Staff should, IMO, uphold the first-come, first-serve policy.

And this sideline squad will continue to act like this as long as they are DD's pets. I saw students who had been there since the doors open told to move by event staff so this group could come in at 6:30 and then have to be told over and over again by the police to keep away from the court. And the 4 that were running the sling shots need to go. They are not cheerleaders, not are they members of the dance team. They have no business on the floor during the game. And I know some students were also upset after the game. How much longer will we cater to some students before we start to affect student attendance. We have a long way to go.

you can throw the damn t-shirt to any corner of anderson, theres no need for a slingshot that they can't operate

Sideline Squad's been doing that for the last 4 years. Stinks when you get there an hour early for a front row seat and the clowns in black waltz in 3 minutes into the game to shove you out of the way -- and papa police tells YOU to either move or leave the game.

Don't you know where the Sideline Squad normally sits? If you don't like them, I wouldn't think you would want to sit close to them. I guess they could always "rope" it off like they do for the band!!

They will NEVER move me out of the front row if I'm already there. I can make you that promise right now! In my opinion, they are the worst fans I've seen along the sidelines in a long time. I recall 2 guys doing any yelling the whole game and they have been at every home game this year so I don't mind them. The others though just stood there in their black and watched the game. Why stand in the front row in the House that Roars if you are just going to be a casual observer and not have some influence while being 3 feet from the court? That type of fan support will never get me to move if I'm already sitting in the front row.

I know where they sit, and I don't sit anywhere near them. That's not the point. The point is that the front row seats should go to whoever gets there early enough to claim them. I have sat in the front row for the past 4 seasons, although this year I've moved back, and I always got there as close to 1 hour before gametime as possible.

I think its disgusting that the event staff guys tell people who have been there for an hour that they have to move because these guys have special tee shirts. If they want to mark that area off specifically for them, then do so and put up some markings or whatever, because its quite possible that not all these people that got booted from their seats DID know that's where the sideline squad was supposed to be. It's quite possible that many of them were making their first trip to Anderson Arena, only to get kicked out of seats that they were there an hour earlier to reserve. Now how likely are they to make the return trip to Anderson Arena?

The original Sideline Squad was a great group of fans that made their own shirts, showed up an hour before tipoff, and was loud in harassing opposing players. Nowadays they've taken the name, but none of the legacy. They get shirts from the university, and think they're entitled to the front row seats. They aren't nearly as loud or intimidating as they used to be either. I just don't see why the event staff caters to these guys.

Rattlesnake Bob was a member of the Sideline Squad at the most recent game. He had his Santa hat on with his T-shirt. He looked kind of "elfen" amongst the students.
