BG's 2011-2012 men's basketball schedule updates

Post by BGSU33 »

BG will play Tiffin in an exhibition game on Nov. 5. Howard is the season-and home-opener on Nov. 12. Other home games
are set against Temple and Malone College and the Falcons will host a BracketBuster contest in February. The other scheduled home games are part of the CBE Classic, a four-game pod-type tournament much like the Legends Classic Bowling Green played in last season.....While the details of the CBE are still being worked out, there is a good chance BG will play at Notre Dame in mid-November and then host three games, maybe during the week of Thanksgiving. Detroit-Mercy will probably be one of the teams to play in Bowling Green.....BG has road games scheduled against Michigan State, Western Kentucky, Valparaiso, Duquesne, Florida International and Texas-San Antonio next season.

Home:
Howard
Temple
Malone College
Bracket Buster opponent
Possibly three games in the CBE Classic with likely Detroit being one of them

Away:
Michigan State
Notre Dame
Western Kentucky
Valpo
Duquesne
FIU
UT-San Antonio

That would be a nice road schedule, if N.D. or another program of similar caliber is included. Malone University....seriously? :?

I agree. We could have done better. I think Malone is an NAIA institution . Not sure how that impacts NCAA rankings, etc.

They probably will have some athletes as they draw on Canton and Stark County area HS schools. But still, this is a weak point in the schedule. Maybe this is where the future money in the program will get better teams. Hopefully so!

You know, I'm OK with 1 non-d1 opponent each year, but no more.

Well, with Malone and Toledo on the schedule, you have to sit through two this year.

Malone....seriously? Shoot for the stars. I guess Wilberforce was already booked.

Edit---They killed Wilberforce last year, so there's that. Malone (NAIA) went 18-13 (11-7 in the American Mideast Conference). Their JV team (yes they have a JV team went 5-6. If you're wondering how good they are... they lost to Kent State's club team.

HDog....it doesn't count towards anything. No RPI points and if looking at a resume it isn't taken into effect. It's an exhibition game they stick in the regular season to inflate the win total.

That's assuming that we win the game.

Malone is down the road from me in Canton. Don't really care for the idea of playing them as it doesn't add anything.

I am not so hung up on the Malone game. I can live with one non-D-I game on the schedule, but like all of you, I wish it was a D-I opponent instead. I'm still more disappointed with our home opener in the Stroh Center being Howard. I get the whole tie to Dr. SR, but we could have invited him and gave him a front row seat to see anyone that we played. Oh well. Hopefully we'll at least get those three other games as part of that classic, it could help boast the schedule. I also wonder if any ground was made in an attempt to get Wake Forest to come per the discussion about it on Ask the AD awhile ago? I doubt it though.
